Wishes Had Known | Program Likes/Dislikes | Choosing Business

What do you wish you had known about selecting and entering your business school that would be helpful to others going into business?

There is an Entrepreneurship class that teaches essential business educational experiences such as:

  • Applying your people skills as a team member and consultant;
  • Examining business issues from the viewpoint of several disciplines;
  • Engaging in real world problem solving; and
  • Using analysis and creativity for business planning and problem solving.

In addition, there is a millionaire forum where students engage and listen to self made millionaires. For these reasons, I think this class would be helpful for students going into business.

What have you enjoyed most and least during your business degree program so far?

During my undergraduate course work I encountered areas that were really interesting and some that I had to drink a cup of coffee before going to class. My finance classes where interesting we gathered information, assemble spreadsheets and write reports to present.

I also enjoyed being in a capitalist system because leaning about the development of the American financial system was very interesting as well.Crunching the numbers was the easy part however I had difficulties in the presentation of the material because of my thick Caribbean accent.

What led you to choose business as a career path?

Career paths are not always clear and well written out for most students at the early stages of development. It is critical to find an area that is enjoyable, has purpose and will not waste time and resources. Consequently we as humans are prone to look at successful individuals like Oprah or Bill Gates and assume that somehow they became wealthy and innovative overnight, but it truly took many years, time, effort, and perseverance. Choosing a business career path for me stemmed from my ignorance of demand, supply, money, stocks, personal finance, real estate and how an economy works.
