The Technical University of Munich, also referred to as TUM, was established in 1868 and is located in Munich, Germany. The university was granted the permission to award doctorates in 1901. In 1957, TUM became a public legal body. It was renamed the Technische Universität München in 1970. The university's recent enrollments have been more than 20,000 students. The Technical University of Munich offers undergraduate and graduate programs of study through the following academic divisions:

Among the notable alumni of the Technical University of Munich are Nobel laureates Gerhard Ertl, Thomas Mann, Konrad Emil Bloch, and Ernst Ruska; Pritzker Prize winner Gottfried Böhm; and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize winners Arthur Konnerth, Jean Karen Gregory, Manfred Broy, Joachim Milberg, and Hubert Schmidbaur.
