The University of Freiburg, also known as the Uni Freiburg, was established in 1457. It is located in Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The university is also known as Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in German. The university played one of the role models for the formation of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore in 1875. It became the first university to admit female students in 1900. Uni Freiburg's recent enrollment have been more than 20,000 students. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs of study through the following academic divisions:
The University published a magazine known as the Freiburger Uni-Magazin, which has reports, interviews, and other campus related news. The newsletter is published 4 to 5 times per semester.
The university alumni include personalities such as Reinhold Baer, a mathematician; Peter Herbert Jensen, nuclear physicist; Bernhard Schlink, a writer and jurist; Leonhard Koeppe, an ophthalmologist; Archibald Cary Coolidge, an educator; Karl-Henning Rehren, a physicist; Erich Neumann, a politician; and many others.
