About the School
ACT College has been a leading provider of allied health education in the Washington, D.C. area since 1983. Originally known as Computer-Ease, a technology and business training school, the school changed its name to Applied Career Training in 1992 and exclusively began providing allied health programs. In 2004, the school expanded into diploma and associates degree programs and became known as ACT College.
The school currently offers five diploma and three associates degree programs at its three Northern Virginia campus locations in Arlington, Alexandria, and Manassas. An accelerated educational environment includes classroom training as well as hands-on clinical externships at local area medical offices and hospitals.
Academic Programs
The following programs are offered at all three campus locations:
- Medical Assisting Diploma Program – Students learn clinical skills including: assisting with medical exams and surgical procedures, administering medicine, and learning basic medical office procedures. Upon completion of program graduates will be able to successfully assist physicians and a variety of medical group practices.
- Medical Office Administration Diploma Program – Students are taught the necessary skills for successful employment as an administrative specialist in medical and dental practices, clinics, and hospitals. Training includes learning tasks such as maintaining patient charts, patient appointment scheduling, handling referrals, and performing basic clinical procedures.
- Dental Assisting Diploma Program – Dental office and laboratory skills are taught such as chair side assisting, taking and exposing radiographs, preliminary examination procedures, and charting and maintaining patient records.
- Pharmacy Technician Diploma Program – Program provides entry-level skills necessary to assist pharmacists such as preparing and dispensing medications, maintaining patient medication records, managing inventories of drugs and medications, proper labeling of prescriptions, and customer service skills.
- Medical Radiography Associates Degree (A.A.S.) Program – Students learn skills to pursue a career in radiographic imaging by combining a technical and general academics curriculum with clinical experience in performing diagnostic radiography procedures. This program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Technology (JRCERT).
- Allied Health Technology Associates Degree (A.A.S.) Program – General education experience for those students interested in healthcare careers. Program includes training in one of four clinical specialties: medical assisting, dental assisting, medical administrative specialist, or pharmacy technician. Students will learn basic professional and technical responsibilities and be prepared to continue their education by pursuing a baccalaureate degree.
- Medical Assisting with X-Ray Associates Degree (A.O.S.) Program – Students will learn the required administrative and clinical skills for entry level employment as a Medical Assistant and Limited X-Ray Technician, as well as a basic foundation in general education. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to continue their education at the baccalaureate level.
Learning Options
Day or evening programs are offered at each of the three ACT College locations. All programs include first-rate classroom training and hands-on clinical experience at local area medical offices and hospitals. Academic and career counseling services are available to students, as well as a library and resources network to assist with work.

Student Life
ACT College is a commuter school with three locations in Northern Virginia. The school believes in flexibility and achieving a work/life balance and offers both day and evening classes to accommodate students. Students work side-by-side with allied health professionals in the classroom and while completing real-world externships.
Admissions and Financial Aid
All qualified students who apply are accepted at ACT College. Interested students are encouraged to schedule a visit with a Career Advisor who will match individual strengths with the appropriate program and assist students with the application. Students also meet with a member of the Financial Services team to develop a complete financial plan. Some of the financing options available include federal grants and Stafford loans, federal campus based funds such as work study programs, private loans, and scholarships.
