About the School
Advantage Career Institute provides students in Central New Jersey with high quality training programs in the areas of health care, technology, and business. Founded in 1990, the school operates a modern training facility in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The focus of the school is to provide high-tech, hand-on training in some of today's most sought after careers. With strong career development services, students benefit from lifetime career assistance for graduates completing their eight-step career placement assistance program.
Academic Programs
The institute offers 18 programs in the areas of health care, technology and business. Some of the programs include:
- Medical Billing and Coding Program – For students looking for a medical career but preferring not to work with patients, students learn skills to obtain entry-level billing and coding employment in hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, clinics, and medical group practices.
- Medical Assistant with Phlebotomy and EKG Program – Students learn the required administrative and clinical skills of a Medical Assistant. Students gain knowledge and skills such as medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, phlebotomy, ECG/EKG, clinical procedures, medical billing, patient rights and HIPAA. In-depth training in anatomy & physiology, as well as the legalities and ethical behavior associated with a medical practice are also learned.
- Dental Assisting Training with Radiology Program – Students learn the necessary skills to assume entry-level positions as a dental assistant in dental offices and clinics. Some of the skills taught include: preliminary examination procedure, chair side assisting, charting, appointment scheduling, keeping patient records, sterilizing instruments, and taking and exposing radiographs. The program includes classroom, clinical and lab instruction, and a 100 hour externship program.
- AutoCAD Fundamentals Program – Program provides basic AutoCAD commands for individuals who edit, view or work with others that create design content. Skills taught include: fundamental concepts of creating, editing, dimensioning, viewing, managing and plotting of two-dimensional drawings.
- Computerized Accounting and Business Specialist – Students learn skills to perform accounting and bookkeeping functions typically found in small to medium size businesses. Computer accounting software such as QuickBooks and Peachtree software applications are utilized to help teach skills such as: double entry accounting, account setup, analyzing and recording transactions, special journals, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash disbursements and cash receipts.
Learning Options
Flexibility is an important goal at the school, which offers day and evening classes at its fully equipped modern training facility. Hands-on training gives students the opportunity to learn the skills they will need in the workplace. Each student is provided an individual workstation in class. One-on-one or group tutoring is offered if needed.

Student Life
Advantage Career Institute is a commuter school with one location in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Student Services Department offers a variety of services to meet the needs of its students. Advisers are available to help with services such as career advising and tutoring.
Admissions and Financial Aid
The school requires that any interested students interview with a member of the Admissions Department. This interview also gives students the opportunity to learn important information about the school. All programs require a high school diploma, GED, or passage of the "Ability to Benefit" test. Prior training may also be required.
Advantage Career Institute works with each student to determine the best way to finance his or her education. The school works with private financial institutions that provide educational loans, and offers affordable payment plans. The school also can assist students in determining if there are any grants or work study programs available, and is also a New Jersey state approved training provider, where certain students may qualify for free training if they are currently unemployed or have been laid off.
