About the School
Since 1972, Aiken Technical College (ATC) has been committed to providing quality educational programs for the people of greater Aiken County. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, ATC offers a comprehensive selection of programs leading to associate's degrees, certificates and diplomas. More than 80 courses of study are offered in fields such as business, information technology, human services, education and public safety. ATC also offers continuing education courses for students desiring professional development and workforce training.
Aiken Technical College also offers students a fulfilling education experience through a vast array of student services and activities including an Academic Success Center, Student Activities Center, Career and Placement Services, student government, Phi Theta Kappa, and athletics teams. Aiken Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Academic Programs
ATC offers more than 80 courses of study for students, with degree, diploma and certificate programs. The College’s course offerings are organized under career clusters based on an occupational and industrial approach, allowing students the opportunity to pursue a full range of educational programs according to a student's interests. Some of the areas include health, business, information technology, and education, among many others. Three Associate degree programs, as Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Science, and an Associate in Arts, are geared for students intending to transfer to a four-year college or university. Many diploma and certificate programs are also offered for students planning on learning a specific skill to directly enter the workforce.
Learning Options
Aiken Technical College offers flexible course schedules with day, evening and weekend classes. There are also a number of distant learning options offered in non-traditional formats, many using the computer, such as: live two-way video courses, live tele-classes, online courses, and web-enhanced courses. The Training and Business Development at ATC also offer continuing education programs for workers looking to enhance existing skills.
Faculty
Students benefit from knowledgeable, degreed faculty who are professionals with industry-specific experience. Small class sizes allow faculty to provide students with personal attention.
Student Life
Aiken Technical College has more than 3,400 credit students as well as over 10,000 people enrolled in non-credit offerings. ATC is a commuter school with no campus housing. However, the school boasts modern facilities with high-tech classrooms. Many activities and clubs are available for students, as well as two sports teams, a men's basketball and ladies' fast-pitch softball. The school also has an Academic Success Center to enhance student learning through support services such as tutoring and study groups.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Aiken Technical College has an "open-door" admission policy allowing adult citizen who can benefit from available learning opportunities to enroll. All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or its equivalent. In addition, all applicants are required to submit an Application for Admission, and a copy of their high school transcript. Students must also submit ACT or SAT scores, or participate in placement testing prior to acceptance. Interested students should contact the school for an application and tour of the campus.
Financial assistance is available to students who have satisfactory academic records and are in need of aid. Students have many options such as Title IV student aid such as Federal loans and Pell grants, Veterans Administration Benefits, scholarships, work study programs, and private loans. The Financial Aid Office can assist with completing any applications.
