About Alvernia University
Originally named Alvernia College, Alvernia University is a Franciscan private university situated in Reading, Pennsylvania and with satellite Pennsylvania campuses. The university provides over 50 degree programs, including criminal justice, education, business and nursing. The school offers numerous master's degrees. Alvernia University also provides graduate certifications, graduate dual programs and a doctoral degree.
The teaching of theories is blended with real-world experiences. The school is based in the Catholic and liberal arts traditions. The school strives to teach students their responsibilities as citizens of their community, their country and the world. In addition, the Alvernia Seniors College offers intellectual and cultural exploration on and off-campus for seniors.
Alvernia University Academic Programs
- Certificate Programs - Certificates are offered in various subjects including elementary, secondary and special education. A principal certificate is also available.
- Undergraduate Degrees - Various programs are available such as computer information systems, psychology, education, accounting, marketing, business and numerous programs in the arts & humanities as well as in rehabilitation & therapy.
- Masters Degree Programs - Masters degree programs are available in community counseling, community leadership, education and business administration. In addition, a masters degree in education with an emphasis in school health and school nurse certification is provided.

Student Life
The university welcomes students from many religious backgrounds. The school has an enrollment of about 1,500 undergraduates. Most students attend on a full-time basis and typically 80% are in-state residents and about 30% live on-campus. Regarding sports, students have the opportunity to watch the university's basketball, baseball and track teams perform.
The Division of University Life offers programs and services to develop the whole person. Community services programs and the Center for Ethics and Leadership are also available for students. The Career Services Office provides a variety of assistance and includes a Career Resource Library.
The Federal Work Study program offers federal funds, based on financial need, to students in exchange for working part-time on-campus or off-campus. The Institutional Work Study program is funded by Alvernia University and is available for specific school departments.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Applicants should send their school record along with a SAT or ACT score to the Office of Admissions. Financial assistance is offered to qualified students.
