About the School
Berks Technical Institute is a career training school which provides degrees in business, information technology, legal, healthcare and criminal justice. A variety of specialized career education courses are available. The school began in 1982 as the Lehigh Data Processing Institute. In 1990 it was renamed Berks Technical Institute. The institute's programs are frequently updated to provide the skills required by employers.
Academic Programs
The institute offers a variety of programs such as:
- Internet/Network Engineering Program – Emphasizes hardware and software fundamentals. Skills are provided to create and administer Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks. Plenty of hands-on training is provided.
- Business Administration Management Program – Features topics such as accounting, corporate accounting, money and banking and statistics. Practical training with computer applications is also provided.
- Network/Internet Professional Program – Students are offered a working knowledge of software packages in the areas of word processing, operating systems, spreadsheets, database and networking. Students are provided with a basic understanding of repairing and installing personal computer and network hardware. In addition, network security is examined.
- Paralegal Associate in Specialized Business Program – Training is provided in research, preparing legal documents and other tasks. Students must participate in an externship program.
- Graphic Design – The program is focused on print-based design, however it also offers training in video editing, web design and commercial photography. The curriculum utilizes industry standard software.
- Drafting Technology Program – Emphasizes architectural drafting and mechanical drawing. Hands-on training is provided in the Computer Aided Drafting Lab.
Learning Options
- Associate degrees can be achieved in 18 to 27 months, depending on the subject.
- Diplomas can be acquired in 9 to 12 months.
- Students may learn at their own pace in the training degree programs.
Faculty
Instructors are chosen based on their academic background and professional credentials. The teachers are experienced in their specific field.
Student Life
The enrollment is typically over 600 students. School staff members assist students in finding housing. The Office of Student Services focuses on the students' personal, social and academic adjustments to school. The Career Services Center prepares students and graduates for employment. Students have access to the institutes Learning Resource Center.

Applicants may contact an admission representative online or by telephone. Berks Technical Institute provides merit based scholarships to graduating high school seniors on a yearly basis. Students interested in obtaining a scholarship must take the institute's scholarship test.
