About the School

Brown College of Court Reporting offers comprehensive programs in court reporting. According to the school it's the only court reporting program in Georgia approved by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). The students can learn stenography or voice writing. Graduates can work for courts, lawyers, companies, associations and other organizations. They can also be hired to provide live captioning for television.

Academic Programs

  • Court Reporting - Stenography program - Students are provided thorough training in using a computer and a stenotype for court reporting. They also learn how to use shorthand. The program provides court externships and freelance externships. Stenography students can choose between on-campus and online courses. Students are prepared to take the state certification exam.
  • Court Reporting - Voice Writing - Students are trained to speak into a mask-like device, which includes a microphone, which feeds the reporter's voice into specialized voice recognition and translation software on the reporter's laptop computer. To achieve the required high speeds and accuracy, the students are trained to speak in a form of shorthand which the software is able to translate. The program provides court externships and freelance externships. Students are prepared to take the state certification exam.
  • CART/Captioning - Students learn to provide realtime communication to hearing impaired individuals. The program includes plenty of hands-on training.
