About Texas A&M's Bush School of Government and Public Service Online

The Bush School of Government and Public Service is named after George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States. Opened in 1997 as part of Texas A&M University, one of the largest universities in the United States, the Bush School was created with the mission to educate leaders in public service and international affairs, conduct research, and perform service. The Bush School offers online graduate certificate programs for working professional and students who need the flexibility of an online program, allowing students the freedom to complete coursework on their own schedule. The Bush School is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Academic Programs

The Bush School currently offers the following three online graduate-level certificate programs:

  • Certificate in Advanced International Affairs (CAIA) - Program requiring completion of 12 graduate credit hours, covering topics such as diplomacy, intelligence, foreign policy, international politics, among others.
  • Certificate in Homeland Security (CHLS) - Program requiring completion of 15 graduate credit hours, covering topics related to strategy and policy for homeland security.
  • Certificate in Nonprofit Management (CNPM) - Program requiring completion of 12 graduate credit hours, teaching students about nonprofit organizations and their management practices, among others.

Learning Options

Online graduate-level certificate programs do not require any travel to campus and can be completed entirely online, although students who live near the campus have the option of mixing on-line and in-residence courses.

Faculty

The faculty at the Bush School are nationally and internationally recognized experts and have real-world experience in their fields. Many faculty members are published authors and contribute to the schools journals, with some holding endowed chairs or professorships.

Student Life

Students of online programs are considered part of the Texas A&M community and are welcome to be a part of the many organizations within the school. Courses within the program are highly interactive, with 24 hour a day computer helpdesk assistance. Students also have access to an extensive e-library including electronic books and publications.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Each of the online certificate programs at the Bush School have admissions requirements specific to their program, but in general, all students must submit official transcripts from prior schooling, as well as a personal statement, resume, and GRE scores. Admissions advisers are available to assist students with the entire process.

Federal financial aid is available for students enrolled in the Bush School certificate programs, and all interested students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Department of Student Financial Aid can assist students with the application process.
