About the School
California Healing Arts College was founded in 1988 by Dr. Paul Schwinghamer, a chiropractor and educator devoted to the healing arts, with the goal of expanding the general public's awareness of therapeutic massage. Located in West Los Angeles, California, the college offers two massage therapy programs and is dedicated to graduating highly qualified massage therapists for careers in health clubs, spas, salons, and chiropractic and medical clinics. In 1999, California Healing Arts College was named in the popular book "Massage for Dummies" as one of the top ten massage therapy schools in the United States.
The programs at California Healing Arts College promote the school's philosophy that massage is a non-invasive healing art, a necessary adjunct to medicine, chiropractic care, and acupuncture. The college is approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
Academic Programs
California Healing Arts College has the following two massage therapy programs:
- Massage Therapy - Master: Program taking 720 clock hours, thoroughly preparing students for careers in any clinical massage environment. Students are trained in areas such as deep tissue therapy, sports, oscillation, shiatsu, massage theory, and receive practical experience in the school clinic. Students are prepared for most individual city and county licensing requirements in California, and are eligible to apply for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Exam (NCBTMB) in Massage Therapy.
- Massage Therapy - Practitioner: Introductory program taking 150 clock hours, teaching students basic anatomy and physiology of the human body, and the learning and application of Swedish and other forms of massage. This program is designed for international students who wish to try the school before entering the Master program.
