About the School

Career Technical College was established as the Monroe School in Louisiana in 1985. The school was acquired by the Delta Educational Systems, Inc. The college provides Associate of Occupational Studies Degrees and diplomas in the subjects of Health Services, Criminal Justice, Technology and Business. In addition, the degree programs include appropriate general education classes.

Academic Programs

Associate of Occupational Studies Degrees and diplomas are available in numerous subjects. Several of these subjects include:

  • Health Care Technology – Offers a foundation in general medical subjects including physiology, medical terminology, anatomy, electrocardiography and phlebotomy. Students are prepared for certification exams in ECG and phlebotomy.
  • Massage Therapy – Provides the business and academic background necessary for graduates to become entrepreneurs in spa/healing arts and related fields. Students are also taught the skills of a massage therapist.
  • Medical Assisting – The curriculum's objective is to train students in administrative and clinical tasks. The graduates are provided the knowledge to take the AAMA Certification Examination for Medical Assistants for the Certified Medical Assistance (CMA) credential.
  • Medical Office Technology – Provides practical training in the popular software programs. Front office medical and business skills are also included.
  • Respiratory Therapy – A foundation is offered in managing, treating and controlling the health problems related to cardiopulmonary disease. Also, training is provided in respiratory care procedures.
  • Surgical Technology – Students are trained to work in operating rooms with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses as well as other members of the surgical team.

  • Criminal Justice – Targets the education needed for entry-level positions in areas such as corrections, law enforcement, and security. Covers legal topics related to law enforcement, the courts, and the correction system.

    Student Life

    Most students are female and are in-state residents. The majority of the students attend the college full-time.

    Admissions and Financial Aid

    Students must have a high school diploma or a GED credential. Applicants are also required to pass an entrance exam. School representatives provide assistance during the admission process. Financial aid is available for those who qualify and most students do receive some type of financial aid.
