About the School
Colorado Technical University Online (CTU Online) is the online extension of Colorado Technical University, an institution founded over 40 years ago that has trained over 38,000 students. CTU Online provides career-focused educational programs in the areas of business and management, criminal justice, public administration, healthcare and information technology.
Academic Certificates are built into every curriculum so without taking any additional courses, students can add value to their degree program by completing the specific certificate requirements.

Academic Programs
CTU Online degree programs are organized by the following colleges:
- College of Business and Management – Business administration concentration options encompass accounting finance, healthcare, human resources, IT, international business, marketing, operations management, technology management and more. The school's accounting students learn problem solving skills to address accounting issues and learn how to work with financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Accounting careers paths can include Budget Analysts, General Accountants, Controllers, and more.
- College of Criminal Justice and Public Administration – Modules cover paralegal studies and criminal justice. The bachelor's criminal justice track offers a forensic study unit not typically available at the undergraduate level.
- College of Health Sciences – There are online learning opportunities in healthcare management, medical billing and coding and nursing (RN to BSN).
- College of Information Systems and Technology – The Information Technology track includes options for concentration in network management, security, software systems engineering, information systems security and information technology management.
- Interdepartmental – Allows students to earn an Associate of Science in General Studies.
Learning Options
- Students entering as freshman can complete the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in about two and a half years.
- Depending on transfer credits and advanced standing options, students may enter the program at the freshman, sophomore or junior level
- Partnership program with Institute for Advanced Dispute Resolution gives students an opportunity to earn a Advanced Practitioner of Mediation certificate
- Master's Advantage™ Program gives students a head start on their Master's degree by substituting two undergraduate courses for two graduate-level courses

Student Life
Recently the CTU Online launched CTUMobile, a mobile learning channel that delivers educational materials via web-enabled devices like cell phones.
The school's Online Academic Library is available 24/7. The digital resources include articles from newspapers, magazines and scholarly journals.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Prospective students must submit proof of high school graduation or equivalency. Post graduate degree applicants need to submit their baccalaureate transcript. All applicants are required to complete a telephone interview.

| School Reputation | 5 | I have no knowledge of how employers view a degree from CTU. There are many military students because of the tuition assistance and scheduling flexibility that CTU offers. In the military, the source of a degree is not taken into account as long as the school is accredited. |

They provided a technical package of required software and all textbooks (most often textbooks were e-copies.) Instructions were clear, and communications with professors, staff, and technical support was timely and helpful. |
| Instruction | 8 | As an older student with a great deal of professional experience but no academic credentials, I found that I was rarely challenged by the curriculum. Had I taken this material in my teens, it would have been a more rewarding experience. I did find that many of my fellow students had problems with spelling and grammar, as well as a failure to follow basic instructions. I believe this is a reflection more on the type of student who takes online classes and less on the university. |

| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | All work is done online. All assignment dates are given at the start of the class. It is possible to complete all work with 6-8 hours split over two days during a week, but distributing the work over four days makes optimal use of the planned presentations. Every resource used in the class, from the books to the lectures, is archived online and may be accessed by any computer from any location. I worked from both my office and home while completing my degree. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | While I did not make use of the school's resources as I had better access to material through my work (I worked at a hospital with full subscriptions to scientific publications and also had access to a law library), I do know that the school's resources are truly extensive. They offer tutoring in all basic classes and for students with disabilities. There is an extensive academic collection subscription to many major publications. Technical support is available 24/7 and academic advising is available 6 days a week. The school provides a full support package of software for either Mac or PC. |
| Social Life | 5 | I made a personal decision not to participate in any activities other than classes. This is an online campus, so all social interaction is online. Students are encouraged to create detailed profiles. Interaction with other students is encouraged but not required. The school does integrate Facebook into its social network for those who choose to use it. |

My advisor was always an email or phone call away and he was always very helpful, as were the instructors. They were always helpful and willing to answer any questions, either by email or by phone. |

"If it wasn't so expensive, I would have loved to continue at this school. The classes ran at my pace, kind of slow at times, which is always good, but I never felt like it was too much. It was great to be able to work at my speed, which is ahead of the pack, because at times, people can slow down progress in any aspect of life."

I liked (almost) always being able to contact a teacher or technical support or administrative aid. However, the school became far too expensive even with Financial Aid. |
| Instruction | 9 | I enjoyed knowing that by the time I graduated from the 18 month program that what I learned wouldn't be considered obsolete. I felt that I learned a lot in my classes, as well as within discussions with classmates and in researching for assignments. |

It is well over $300 a credit, which is nice compared to the cost of 4-year program where you pay for rent, food, transportation, books, and so on. I still feel like it was really expensive. I think it comes out to around $30K in loans for myself. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | Classes started within a month of looking the college up. I took a month off between my 2nd and 3rd "semesters" and it was easy to slide back in. The live online classes were archived, so even if I wasn't able to attend, it wasn't bad to watch the class later and send the teacher a message. |

There seemed to be a lot of people on the class roster, but few in the live classes depending on the class, which was nice. Tutoring was available and questions could always be emailed or asked in class to the instructor. In most classes, there were peer evaluation and group projects, which were beneficial. |
| Social Life | 2 | As this was an online "campus," there was little in terms of "social" events. There were a few groups to join, one being a movie club, watching online movies and chatting throughout the film. There were some after class chats not pertaining to the class, just as a "peer-evaluation" sort of thing. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I believe I looked into job placement and career services briefly, but I think that the network would have been bigger if there was more time taken by alumni to post after graduation. I do not recall seeing anything that met my search standards in my area. |

Any person that I have talked to about this university has had only good things to say about it and I would say the same about my experience thus far. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 10 | I have found the entire Virtual Campus to be very user-friendly, with many options for help available as well. The classes are simple and easy to access, and of course it is very convenient to do my classes from home... in my pajamas! I have only had good experiences with CTU, and the staff is always in touch to make sure I am still on track. |
| Instruction | 10 | The quality of instruction I have witnessed so far has been great, as all of my instructors have been patient and informative. They have never been difficult to contact, maintain a professional attitude, and a show a willingness to help in every way possible. |
| Cost | 9 | I will only be in school for 18 months, and with this, I will complete an Associate's Degree. With the university being a little more fast-paced than usual, I think that the value is rather good. The total cost of my education will be approximately $26K, but the financing options are very well explained. I was guided through the entire process as well. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | Although we are not given a true option of when the classes will be, there is great flexibility in when the assignments are due, and we are given plenty of time, as working adults. There are some sessions that I consider important as part of the class that I cannot always make due to other commitments, but those are accessible in other ways as well. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | Everything I am involved with in regards to CTU is virtual, so I suppose the classroom space isn't necessarily relevant. As for the other resources available, we are given the option to attend Learning Labs that cover a variety of different topics, which will enhance our experience with each class. Professors are always easily contacted, whether through phone or e-mail, and there are a lot of options for students who may be struggling, or those who simply want a little extra study time. |
| Social Life | 10 | I do not engage in many of the social options given to us as CTU Online students, but the options I have seen are far better than my previous experience at a Community College. The Virtual Commons is an area where everyone can go and network with others in an easy, friendly way. There are also clubs and groups to join, and I have noticed most of them tend to be very active. |
| Placement Services | 7 | The job placement and career services is a very under-used tool with the CTU online students. I have only used it a few times, but from my experience, it was helpful, but a bit confusing. There are a ton of useful resources that will be even more beneficial in the future. |
| Alumni Network | 10 | The Virtual Campus and Virtual Commons allow alumni and current students to network with each other. I found this to be very useful, especially in talking to other adult learners who have gone through the same program I am going through. |
