About the School
Since 1980, the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy (CCMT) has been has been providing students with professional massage therapy training programs. CCMT has three locations in Connecticut, with a main campus in Newington and branch locations in Groton and Westport. CCMT is the only school in Connecticut dedicated exclusively to providing massage therapy training. The courses at CCMT are taught within a holistic context, and the school is committed to sending highly-trained graduates into the massage field.
CCMT is part of Steiner Education Group, which operates massage therapy and skin care schools in 17 locations in nine states. Steiner Education Group is a subsidiary of Steiner Leisure Limited, a global provider of spa services, which recruits students directly from the Steiner Education Group of schools. CCMT is accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a specialized accrediting agency for massage therapy and bodywork programs and institutions.
Academic Programs
The Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy offers the following massage training programs:
- Massage Therapy: CCMT's core program, offered at all campus locations. This program offers a flexible schedule and provides a well-rounded education in massage therapy.
- Full-time Massage Therapy: Program only offered at Newington location, designed for students who want to complete their massage education as quickly as possible.
- Clinical Massage Therapy: Program only offered at Westport location, for students intending to practice massage with a musculoskeletal rehabilitative orientation. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the New York State massage therapy licensure exam.
- Spa Massage Therapy: Dual training program only offered at Groton location, preparing students who want to be highly trained in both massage and spa modalities.
CCMT also offers several Continuing Education programs for massage therapists and other health care professionals.
Learning Options
Classes at CCMT are academically comprehensive and professionally up-to-date. Many opportunities are available for hands-on experience in student clinics, giving massages to the public in a clinical setting. In addition, selected CCMT courses have been assessed and approved for up to 40 credits at Charter Oak State College.
Faculty
Students at CCMT benefit from knowledgeable faculty who are professionals with real-world experience. The faculty of hands-on courses, and most teachers of science courses, have private practices in massage therapy or are employed as health care professionals.
Student Life
The staff at CCMT gives extensive support and guidance through various programs such as tutor programs, study skills and time management workshops, and exam and licensure support. In addition, CCMT has meditation and practice rooms for students, as well as student and graduate newsletters. All three campuses have fully-stocked libraries with books and journals to assist students with their studies. The Newington campus also has a public retail and online store called Hands-On Supply, catering to students by offering a wide selection of massage equipment and supplies.
Admissions and Financial Aid
CCMT requires students to be 18 years or older and be a high school graduate, or the equivalent. Students must show proof with a high school transcript, GED score report, or college transcript. Students must also be proficient in English and attend an interview with an Admissions Representative. Finally, CCMT also requires students be in good health, free of diseases or conditions that will prevent successful work performance after the completion of the program.
The Financial Aid Department at CCMT offers installment plans to all students as well as federal financial aid to qualified students. CCMT is also approved to train veterans and their qualified dependents who are eligible for Veterans Administration Educational benefits, and displaced workers may be eligible to use their WIA grants at CCMT. Students should meet with an Admissions Representative to determine the best financial plan.
