About the School

Founded in 1978 Court Reporting Institute (CRI) opened a new campus in 2002 and in 2006 they launched their online court reporting educational track. The school only teaches court reporting and paralegal studies so all of the curricula focus is in that area.

The Institute offers day and evening classes as well as a 100% online program.

Academic Programs

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree in Court Reporting – Court reporting plays an important role in the legal profession. The Associate program develops is designed to provide a well rounded education and graduate students who will have the capabilities to ensure that complete and accurate legal records are secured and maintained. Possible career paths for students include: official court reporter, freelance reporter, court reporting firms, closed caption reporter, political reporter, government reporter, media-room reporter, public reporter, and more.
  • Diploma in Paralegal Studies – This track is set up to train students for entry-level positions in the paralegal field. After the program's completion students may find employment as a paralegal or legal assistant in a variety of legal work environments.

Learning Options

  • Daytime classes take place Monday through Friday on the campuses; the night school programming occurs for about 4 hours on a Monday through Thursday cycle
  • The online coursework is spread over 26 hours a week
  • The Institute is approved for the training of veterans

Faculty

With its sole focus on court reporting and paralegal services the school has assembled a staff of professionals with expertise in the field.

Student Life

Students who are participating in the online program are required to have: a personal computer, a unique personal e-mail address, high-speed Internet connection and Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer.

There is no on-campus housing. In classrooms students interact with their instructors and each other to facilitate a social facet to their education.

Admissions and Financial Aid

CRI requires that applicants have a high school diploma or GED certificate. The school urges interested candidates to contact an admissions coordinator to learn about the career opportunities and to gain insight into the school's course load.

A Financial Aid advisor will help qualified students navigate the application process. There are federal financial aid programs, scholarship opportunities, employee reimbursement programs and private education funding programs
