About Coyne American Institute

Founded in 1899, Coyne American Institute (CAI) offers vocational training through hands-on experience. Courses and instruction are geared toward current industry trends to prepare students in their professional careers. The school places an emphasis on training for entry-level positions.

CAI is housed on two campuses. One campus focuses on training for vocational trades. The new campus, which opened in 2004, places its emphasis on coursework dedicated to the healthcare support field.

Coyne American Institute Academic Programs

The Institute awards both Diplomas and Associate Degrees. The key areas of study are HVAC, electronics and healthcare. Program areas include:

  • Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) – Coursework focuses on installing, operating, troubleshooting and servicing residential and commercial systems. Classes include: Mechanical Refrigeration Systems, Electrical Servicing, Commercial Controls and more.
  • Electrical Programs – There are four tracks for an education in electronics. All the programs lay the ground work for professional careers by teaching Electronic Principles, Electrical Test Equipment and Safety, Electrical Construction plus Essential Workplace Skills. Different programs add varying additional course concentration.
  • Pharmacy Technician – With the goal of placing graduates in entry level positions, the curriculum is designed to help develop pharmacy practice skills. Focus includes: compounding, mixing IV solutions, pharmaceutical calculations and the administrative requirements for the position. Special emphasis is on product knowledge and learning detailed information regarding drugs. Students participate in an externship program to gain practical experience prior to graduation.
  • Healthcare Support – The Medical Assisting program provides training for individuals to support clinical and administrative services to healthcare professionals. Coursework includes: Anatomy and Physiology, Law and Ethics, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology and more. Prior to graduation individuals participate in an externship program to garner real-world experience. Medical Billing and Coding Specialist students learn claims processing, records management, billing and CPT and ICD9 Diagnostic codes. Medical Administrative Assistant coursework teaches students Office Automation, Administration, Coding, Medical Terminology, Law and Ethics as well as other functions.

Financial aid is available to qualifying students. Federal Grant and Loans, Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits, Social Security and Scholarships through the Imagine America Foundation scholarship program are potential sources of aid.
