About the School

DeVry Institute of Technology, also known as DeVry Calgary, is a part of DeVry University, one of the largest private university systems in North America with over 90 locations. The Institute offers degree programs in engineering, networking, and business.

Academic Programs

The Institute has degree programs areas that include:

  • Business Operations – Focuses on the study of the processes that operations professional manage to bring new products and services to fruition. Designed to ready students for careers in industries ranging from aerospace to pharmaceuticals to electronics. Concentrations can include accounting, finance, hospitality, production, project management, sales, marketing, security, entrepreneurship and more.
  • Computer Engineering Technology – Prepares students with the specific skills they will need to design and build software and hardware in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, medical, communications, consumer, and others.
  • Computer Information Systems – Teaches the skills and knowledge needed to work with databases, web sites, and computers systems that are important to the effectiveness of all types of organizations. Concentration tracks can include business, databases, security, systems analysis and integration, web development and administration, and also those that the student defines based on their interests.
  • Electronics Engineering Technology – Helps ready students to take on careers related to the design the electronic components that make up the huge variety of electronic devices available in the marketplace. The curriculum applies industry-current tools and techniques, such as the National Instruments' ELVIS (Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite), which is for the construction of circuits on personal computers.
  • Network and Communications Management – Teaches the fundamentals of operating and managing the networks for which just about every business depends on. Students learn about designing, implementing, securing, and managing these networks, which can range from IP voice to firewalls to new generations of network administration systems.

Learning Options

  • The Institute's year round class schedule provides an opportunity for students to accelerate their completion time; for instance bachelor students can finish what if normally a four year effort in three years.
  • Some class are taught both onsite and online for the convenience of those with busy schedules. Online classes are taught by the same faculty with the same content as the onsite programming so that students receive the same education as in the classroom.
  • Class materials and resources are available online, including: the course syllabus, class assignments, teacher presentations, a bookstore, the school library, and student support services such as academic advising and financial aid.

Faculty

The faculty is comprised of real-world professionals. The school works faculty to create, regularly evaluate, and update coursework in response to industry needs.

Student Life

Several student organizations offer to enrich experiences beyond the classroom. These include: Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE); Aerospace and Electronics Systems - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (AESS - IEEE) and Unmanned Vehicle Systems (UVS); Computer Systems IEEE (CS-IEEE); and DeVry Advanced Robotics Enterprise (DARE – IEEE).

Admissions and Financial Aid

Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent. Prospective students must show evidence of academic proficiency by either submitting ACT or SAT scores, scores on a DeVry placement examination or by presenting evidence of acceptable grades from other institutions.

For qualified students the DeVry University system offers millions of dollars in scholarships annually. Outside scholarships are also offered and may be based on need, academic achievement, interests as well as other criteria. Loans, grants and payment plans may also be available to applicants.
