Academic Programs

DeVry University's many career-oriented programs include associate, bachelor, and master degrees in the following areas:

  • Technology – Designed to help get students started and advance in their technology-driven careers in such fields as biomedical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, communication networks, and information technology.
  • Business – Career focused business administration degrees are designed to help graduates meet the challenges of the global marketplaces as they pursue careers across industries and fields such as accounting, information systems, health services, hospitality, operations, sales, marketing, security, and entrepreneurship. DeVry's business programs emphasize the application of information technology knowledge and skills to solving real-world business problems.
  • Management – Graduate business degrees, including an MBA, are available via DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management.

As part of DeVry's efforts to ensure high and consistent quality in all their programs and locations, DeVry's curriculum experts determine the course objectives, materials, and textbooks that instructors work from. The experts are continually updating all of this with the goal of keeping courses up-to-date.

Learning Options

DeVry has structured its programs in multiple ways to accommodate the busy schedules of its students. These include:

  • Flexible paces and times – Students can earn degrees part-time, full-time, nights, days, weekends, onsite or online. They can take a course in 8 weeks or over a 15 week semester. They might, for instance, work year-round to earn a four year degree in three years.
  • Multiple locations – With many metropolitan locations in the U.S. and Canada students might take one class in the city and another in the suburbs. Students moving across country can pick up their program at the nearest campus.
  • Multiple offerings – Many classes are offered at more than one time during an academic period.

Faculty

Instructors are typically practitioners in their fields. For instance teachers in DeVry's Keller Graduate School of Management have at least five years of practical real-world experience and are knowledgeable on relevant job market trends. Classes are small, maximizing interactions with instructors. DeVry notes that its faculty members take a practical perspective in their teaching with an emphasis on the expertise, skills, and strategies that employers consider important.

Student Life

DeVry students come from varied backgrounds. They include those right out of high school, transfer students, working adults, military students, and international students.

DeVry University's support services assist all these students in all parts of their program. Undergraduates have a variety of social and educational programs that they can tap into. Onsite campuses regularly bring leading professionals into classrooms to speak with students. Faculty members are involved in guiding student chapters of professional associations and work with students on co-curricular activities.

DeVry considers career services an integral element of the services it provides to its students. DeVry's career services brings a large staff of experts throughout their university system to the assistance of the student body. These experts work with students as they assess career choices, create resumes, interview, and identify companies and jobs to pursue. The staff also works with local and national hiring companies to find job prospects and set up interviews, which are often held on DeVry University campuses. DeVry University has built a national job database just for the use of its student community.

Examples of major U.S. employers of DeVry graduates include Abbott Laboratories, Accenture, Boeing, Discover, Federal Express, GE Healthcare, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Motorola, Northrop Grumman, Schlumberger, Siemens, and UPS.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Admission requirements vary at DeVry University according to the program. All require a student to be at least 17 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Other considerations for being accepted may include prior post-secondary work, grades, SAT or ACT test scores, or DeVry administered placement examinations.

Financial Assistance is available to those who qualify. DeVry University works with its students to assist them in identifying options. Scholarships are an important source for students - for example DeVry provides millions of dollars every year. Tens of thousands of outside scholarships are available that take into account criteria such as student needs, educational achievements, and interests. Other financing options that DeVry can help students to pursue include grants, loans, part-time jobs, extended payment plans, and employer reimbursements. Over 85% of DeVry students take advantage of some form of financial assistance.

"I'm getting my degree, I can usually get the help when I need it, and while there are a number of situations that have had me bashing my head against the wall figuratively, at the end of the day I am getting what I want out of DeVry."

Would Recommend?maybeIf you are running on financial aid it can be a great school. However, I would suggest in most cases to try and find a college that is not for profit, if only to avoid having DeVry on your application.
School Reputation1The biggest hurdle for me with DeVry is the simple fact that it has a reputation as a low grade college, from what I have heard. I think the option of a full online course of study is largely the source of it, but it seems to be known as the college for people who can't do real college.
Satisfaction With Major5I find that DeVry is about the same level of quality as a community college, albeit at a higher cost with more variety of course options. There is nothing about it that is particularly exceptional in the education except for perhaps the versatility of online and offline courses being present. That said, the cost is too high for most of the services rendered.
Instruction5I find that following each class I do learn what was intended, but I never have the confidence to be prepared to take on the next course in line. Much of it varies heavily with the professor with some going out of their way to make things clear, and others who don't seem to care in the least.
Cost3In all of my classes I finish feeling I am not prepared for applying the material in a real world environment. While the versatility is wonderful and has been a lifesaver for me, I still feel that I am being charged far more than I should be for the quality of education I am receiving, though not enough to cause me to transfer. However, those who I have known who have transferred to other colleges never look back.
Schedule Flexibility10Most classes can be taken on multiple days, many with night options (from what I have heard, but I have yet to take advantage of any) and if absolutely nothing fits your schedule, you can always take a course online and do it on your own time.
Academic Facilities4Finding a computer is easy and there is always a lab open, but the library seems to be rather sparse. Most professors have at least one day when they can be reached, and in many cases, only one day for a few hour period. Sometimes if one wishes to meet with their professor, it can take weeks while in other cases it can be right after class the day you mention it.
Social Life7While there were no sports teams I was aware of or any school sponsored clubs, there were a wealth of regular activities for the students. Fair days, pizza lunches, movie nights, and other things were a bimonthly event at least.
Placement ServicesFrom what I have heard DeVry provides excellent assistance in finding work following graduation, but I have no personal experience with it yet.
Alumni NetworkAs I am still attending I can not provide any information, but I have yet to hear of any alumni network at all.

Would Recommend?noThere are cheaper ways to go to school, I am convinced. Plus, degrees from some community colleges and public universities hold more weight than a DeVry degree.
School Reputation5I've heard some employers say that they don't care. Others will apparently just toss out applications with a degree from DeVry, though.
Satisfaction With Major2The school is rather expensive for the quality of education. I'm worried that I could have gotten a better deal somewhere else.
Instruction4Some of the teachers knew what they were talking about. A few of them have been very sub-par.
Cost1Again, like I said before, I think the quality versus cost makes this school to expensive. I would advise others to attend a public university.
Schedule Flexibility5I did think that class flexibility was decent. I enjoyed taking classes at night after work.
Academic Facilities5I know that other campuses have better resources, but overall this one worked fine. The library was small, but had good access to computers.
Social LifeI did very little socializing since I'm quite busy with work outside of school. The people I did meet in my classes were interesting, but I haven't developed any lasting friendships.
Placement Services3I tried to use their services. They seemed semi-equipped to handle it, but I have a feeling I'll have better luck online.
Alumni NetworkI have not graduated yet. I haven't been exposed to the alumni network.

"It was above average when all factors are considered. The reputation is good and the school is held in a positive light."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesOverall, the school is pretty good. The prices are a little steep, but there are several grants and loan programs to help subsidize the school's cost.
School Reputation7It is a well known and established school. The only thing is that it isn't the best when it comes to my field of study.
Satisfaction With Major10The college had most of the up-to-date information in reference to the field of studies. The school had some of the latest technology.
Instruction5The program in my opinion was too accelerated. I didn't particularly care for eight week semesters in certain courses. Often times it left little time to learn and retain knowledge in such a way that you could apply it to real life situations.
Cost3I felt the fees associated with the school were a little pricey, as were the courses themselves. I really didn't see any justification for charging at least twice as much as a local community college.
Schedule Flexibility10Offers a variety of different schedules. I also like the implementation of hybrid courses.
Academic Facilities5They are average in comparison to other schools of similar statute. The school has up-to-date software/computers, but they are not the cream of the crop.
Social Life5The school holds a few social gatherings and has a facebook page.
Placement Services5I rated it average for a couple of reasons. First, I compared it to other schools who offer similar programs. Second, I compared the school's job placement rates on a national level.
Alumni NetworkI am unfamiliar with the alumni and the program at my current school. I do know that they have some sort of outreach program available.

"I got what I wanted from DeVry. I wasn't expecting an Ivy League education and I didn't receive one. The high cost of tuition versus the quality of education makes me rate the school lower than I could have."

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend DeVry for other people like myself that want a decent education from a non-traditional university. I would tell them to weigh out the pros (small class sizes, more flexible schedule/instructors) and cons (cost, lack of social activities).
School Reputation4I haven't really heard much one way or another from employers when speaking about DeVry. Most just say "Oh" when I say where I went to college. Given that DeVry is often mocked in mainstream media, though, I'd have to say the reputation isn't very good.
Satisfaction With Major7DeVry was better than I expected. The coursework seemed very relevant to my major and the instructors seemed to be knowledgeable. There was a good mix of lab and book work.
Instruction7The curriculum seemed mostly relevant to my degree. The teachers, for the most part, were prepared and did well instructing the class through some semi-complex subjects.
Cost3For me personally, DeVry was way too expensive. I could have gone to a "regular" university and probably received as good or better of an education for less. The smaller class size is nice at DeVry, but for the cost of tuition I'd rather deal with less student/teacher interaction.
Schedule Flexibility8The schedule seemed pretty flexible. There were options for morning or night classes which was nice if you worked part or full time. There are also online offerings and plenty to do in the summer if you choose.
Academic Facilities7The facilities were fairly good for my major. There were plenty of computers and easy access to them. A lot of the instructors were willing to help after class and there was the option of study groups as well.
Social Life1I don't recall any parties or organized social events. DeVry had no athletics so there wasn't much school spirit. It was extremely lacking in that area.
Placement Services5The job placement and career services seemed pretty basic. There were job fairs occasionally or a recruiter was brought in, but there was not much more than that.
Alumni Network1I graduated nearly seven years ago and have never heard anything from the alumni network. I don't expect to hear anything from them in the future. In the off chance that I do, I doubt I'll be interested.

"I appreciate the experience and am proud that I earned my bachelor degree. But I'm a little bitter now that I spent so much money for the degree."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI think for more computer-related fields, it is a great school and known to provide good quality. Just be prepared to use your own resources to find a good job, and know how expensive it will be.
School Reputation8They seem to have a good reputation, especially among more computer related fields, like programming. They are accredited and provide a good education.
Satisfaction With Major7The class sizes were VERY small, so there was lots of one on one interaction with teachers. I would have liked more specialized courses to go with the standard courses. I found out they would be phasing out the accounting program and felt slightly like my classmates and I didn't get the most out of it that we could have.
Instruction10We had some very smart, interactive but humorous instructors. They really took the time to talk to use one on one. We had some neat projects that felt like real world work.
Cost1I now almost regret ever going to college. I am about $37k in debt and this is 9 years after graduation. If I were to do it all again, I would probably find a major I had a passion for and go somewhere else, or go to a specialized school.
Schedule Flexibility10I took several online courses. Courses were also diverse enough that I could work an evening job all through college and get every course in that I needed.
Academic Facilities10I really liked the facility. It was small enough that it felt like a closer knit organization, but there was always room to find a table or couch to study or grab something to eat. The library always had plenty of resources and room. It was the same with the computer labs.
Social LifeThere weren't any social activities that I was aware of. But I did interact socially with many people I met at the school.
Placement Services1As I stated before, there was no guidance once I graduated. No one helped with any leads or asked if I needed help.
Alumni Network1I honestly didn't receive any support - just some mail asking me to donate money afterwards. They like to brag about their percent placement, but I don't see how DeVry has anything to do with it - it seems to be all due to effort on the graduate's part.

Would Recommend?maybeIt might not be good for me, but someone else might find it a good fit.
School ReputationDon't really know.
Satisfaction With Major1The program wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Neither was the school. It wasn't the right fit for me, so I eventually left.
Instruction5The classes were good but not great. Most felt like dumbed down high school classes.
Cost1I got nothing out of it and am now in debt. The classes weren't worth the price. Just too expensive.
Schedule Flexibility7I could manage work and school pretty well because the class schedule was decently flexible. It was not great, but good enough I guess.
Academic Facilities7They had decent computer labs, but they were full a lot. I mostly did online work at home.
Social Life1No events really. I didn't really fit in or have the opportunity to try. I didn't make any friends there, except for my roommate.
Placement Services8This is also supposed to be pretty good, but again I wouldn't really know.
Alumni Network8Supposedly it's really good, but I don't know from personal experience.

DeVry University • Mesa, AZ

1/17/2012

"There are many things they could have improved on, primarily the teachers and courses provided."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI really can't say. I'm really torn between if I should ever recommend the school to others.
School Reputation10Supposedly DeVry is a school that is highly revered by many top companies. I think it should be easy to find and keep a job with this school on my resume.
Satisfaction With Major6The courses weren't in depth. Additionally, the way the courses were setup, it seemed like some of them were useless or off topic of the course. Didn't seem to prepare me for the future.
Instruction4The professors didn't seem knowledgeable. Additionally, they penalized me for things that shouldn't have been penalized for (not just saying that, other students agreed and we had them reversed after fighting the teacher about it).
Cost4$100k for only 3 years. Didn't feel like it was worth it.
Schedule Flexibility3The classes are only one day a week, and on a specific date and always at night. Additionally, only a certain amount of classes are offered at a time, instead of a broad choice of classes per semester.
Academic Facilities5For a technological school, it doesn't have much technology. I don't think they have the most up to date software for programming either.
Social Life1Social events were frequent, but lame. However, no real parties, no sports, and school spirit was rare.
Placement Services10They have life time support for helping you find a job. Additionally, they help you write resumes and prepare for interviews.
Alumni Network10They invite alumni to come talk at the school all the time. Additionally, they honor the alumni when they come around.

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeThe scheduling was extremely helpful and the staff and faculty were nothing but nice. I just don't know if the curriculum is right for everyone who seeks to further their education.
School Reputation3It is a nationwide campus. I don't feel that schools like that are looked upon as prestigious as regular universities are.
Satisfaction With Major5I didn't learn much from my program. I put in the time and effort, but I just didn't find the curriculum very helpful. It was a pretty good plan, but I don't know why it didn't help me.
Instruction5Teachers helped me to their best of their abilities. I just never got the material very well.
Cost5The tuition wasn't extremely expensive. However, I didn't maximize the money I was spending on the education.
Schedule Flexibility9The classes were catered to my work schedule. They were very helpful with my schedule.
Academic Facilities5Nothing too spectacular. The facilities did what I needed them to do.
Social Life1I went to school, then went home. I had a job so I couldn't do much with extra curricular activities.
Placement ServicesI never completed my education from DeVry. Never had a chance to utilize this service.
Alumni Network2I rarely got any help from any alumni. The only interaction I had with an alum was that I was recommended to DeVry by one.

Would Recommend?maybeThe companies aren't hiring right now. I would have a hard time making a recommendation to attend a high priced school if there isn't real potential of recovering that money with a good job.
School Reputation5DeVry is a joke in some circles, but the company I work for hired many electronics technicians right out of DeVry. I guess that means they have a fair reputation.
Satisfaction With Major7Half of the classes were useful in the real world. The teachers were great and they really made the experience a good one.
Instruction9Each of my instructors (in the technical classes) were experienced "old timers" and taught us the things we needed to know in the real world. They were helpful in the lab and were fair instructors.
Cost4If I had not been so lucky to land a job, unlike many of my friends, I would have rated this much lower. However, I did get a great job that I wouldn't have landed it if not for my DeVry experience.
Schedule Flexibility5The schedule was on par with other night schools. I appreciated that it wasn't structured to be every night of the week, but rather only three long nights a week. It helped us working folk.
Academic Facilities4I thought that this was the point where DeVry was lacking the most. For the money I spent there should have been better equipment, library, and facilities. The lab equipment was way too old to be relevant and frequently broke.
Social Life8I made a lot of friends there. Those of us that stuck through it were bonded.
Placement ServicesAgain, I found a job out right out of school and never needed this service.
Alumni NetworkI haven't used the alumni network. I was lucky to find a job out of DeVry and never needed the network.

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThe school is pretty good for someone who is able to enjoy online classes. The flexibility is great and the courses are not too hard, but still challenging.
School Reputation5While I have a great view of DeVry, not all employers seem to have the same opinion. I'm not too sure how to get over this stereotype of former tech institutions.
Satisfaction With Major8I enjoy my school. The program encompasses many different aspects of business aspirations.
Instruction7Our instructors are extremely knowledgeable and experienced, but the curriculum isn't up to their standard. The online discussion can be incredibly varied when compared to the coursework and iLabs.
Cost6I like the course load compared to the price. I also have grants paying for my discounted school work so it's hard to be upset about the price when it's not coming out of my pocket.
Schedule Flexibility10Perfectly flexible is about all that can be said. DeVry offers night, day, and online courses.
Academic Facilities9The online assets for this university are great. The various media accesses for these assets are incredibly extensive as well, so DeVry students do not require a trove of libraries and labs. The offerings we do receive are more than adequate and comparable to other universities.
Social LifeI currently attend an online university so the school social environment is nothing really important. There is no environment where social experiences outside of class discussion are warranted.
Placement Services9Personalized workshops make it easy. Also, the business contacts that many current teachers and employees hold help incredibly.
Alumni Network2I have yet to really be approached by any alumni that don't still work with the university. I'm not sure where many of the alumni have gone, but I don't see them in the workforce too often.

1/29/2012

"Given the expense ($25K+), I had hoped to get more than a trade school's education from it. And I'm still paying off that debt today, with no career to speak of from it."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noYou can get the same education at vocational schools and community colleges for far less money. And employers will not treat you any differently for it.
School Reputation1After I graduated, most employers I spoke to were unenthusiastic with working with me after hearing where I was taught. DeVry's reputation is much like McDonalds is among food critics.
Satisfaction With Major2In the end, the program provided minimal skills training for most modern electronics needs. This is especially true of the issue of diagnostics, which is 90% of what a technician needs to do.
Instruction3What was taught was taught well, but what was missing was diagnostics training. Tracking down issues is a critical skill and it was never provided.
Cost1In the end, I could have gotten the same education at a community college for far, far less. And a focus on diagnosing issues as well as fixing them would have been more useful.
Schedule Flexibility5There were tracks of classes available mornings, afternoons, and evenings. But the tracks were set up so that if you had to drop or retake a class for any reason, it would throw off your timing badly.
Academic Facilities8The one thing they had was an up-to-date library with relevant materials. as well as computers for research purposes and communication. The equipment in all the labs was first rate and was kept in excellent shape.
Social Life3It's a tech school. One doesn't go there for socializing.
Placement Services4
Alumni Network3Aside from a few letters asking me to come back and spend more money on other degrees, I was never contacted to see how I was doing career-wise. Nor would I get more than pointed at a pile of pamphlets when I would visit the campus.

DeVry University • Henderson, NV
Studying Business Administration (completion in: 2010)

1/31/2012

"It was a good experience. However, if I had it to do over again, I would probably attend a more traditional school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeIf you just need a degree, I would recommend this school. If you are looking for the traditional college experience, I would look elsewhere.
School Reputation6I thought I may have a hard time getting a job with this degree from this school. I was wrong. I got a job right away. I think over the years this university has earned a decent reputation.
Satisfaction With Major7I had a good experience attending DeVry University. I feel their Business Administration degree program is very competitive compared to like institutions.
Instruction8I thought the teachers were very experienced. They had a wide range of backgrounds that I feel helped in my education experience.
Cost6I think it was a good value. They do offer grants and scholarships, but I don't know of anyone who qualified.
Schedule Flexibility7They offer a good mix of online and campus classes. It was nice for me to go to school and work at the same time.
Academic Facilities4Campus facilities are very limited in my opinion. If you compare them to other schools in the area, they are below average.
Social Life3It's not that type of school. This is more of an inexpensive way to earn your degree. Not many social events or other things of that nature.
Placement Services6DeVry University's expert Career Services advisors are good. They connect you with career professionals while earning your degree, and they try and help you find a job after you graduate.
Alumni Network5They have something called HireDeVry. It provides DeVry students and alumni with an interactive tool to connect with employers and to obtain job leads. They also help with resume building and things of that nature.

"They provided some money for me. However, I regretted going to the school after doing more research on it."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noIt's too expensive. The education and social experiences I had were not well-rounded.
School Reputation3I consider it to have an OK reputation. However, most employers should be wise enough to know that just because it's on TV doesn't mean it's the best thing out there.
Satisfaction With Major6The instruction was good. However, the professors seemed very separated from the class.
Instruction8I learned a lot. I also felt like I was getting well prepared for a career.
Cost3I transferred to a state school. It is less expensive and the diploma provides more value throughout the nation as I seek a career.
Schedule Flexibility7The on-site options were good. The online options were also great and very flexible.
Academic Facilities7Many professors didn't provide much help outside of class, though some went out of their way to help. The equipment in the building was outdated.
Social Life3No school spirit. Felt like going to a job everyday instead of looking forward to being with colleagues who enjoyed doing what they were going to do.
Alumni NetworkI didn't graduate from DeVry. As such, I have no experience with this.

DeVry University • Phoenix, AZ

3/18/2012

"I made my choice on limited information and if I could go back, I would change my decision, but despite having to move around a bit, I've been able to keep my degree, and that's worth something."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend it to others only if they had very little stability as far as location (the ability to transition to online classes helps if you suddenly find yourself having to move) and if they were running on financial aid. If one has a choice for a better college, I would suggest that for the sake of their long-term career.
School Reputation1The reputation just isn't that great, but if you are a foster kid who doesn't have much for selection, it does work. DeVry doesn't even rank on the top 500 list of colleges in the US.
Satisfaction With Major5I like the topics and the focus, but in a lot of ways DeVry seems highly unremarkable. There just is not much it does above and beyond anybody else, and the price is too high for it.
Instruction4It seems that after I finish a class I'm still somewhat confused and feel like a lot was skimmed over. I certainly don't find myself feeling like I'm prepared to apply it to a career.
Cost3DeVry is way too expensive for the reputation the school has. I know I'm going to a second-rate college, but if they raise the tuition I just might have to start paying with redundant organs. That said, if you want to avoid people on football scholarships and want a good chance at a job after college, DeVry isn't all bad.
Schedule Flexibility10Scheduling is VERY flexible, including options on weekends, days, nights, summers, and if nothing else works, online classes. Easily the best part of attending DeVry is that I can take classes when I want to.
Academic Facilities4There are a few computer labs that are pretty much always open, a rather small library, and the professors have at least a few open hours during the week when you can check in with them. However, if you want tutoring, better start talking up your classmates - offering pizza and beer will pretty much guarantee somebody will help you out, but nothing is offered through the school.
Social Life5There are no school teams I know of, no real athletics to speak of, which to me is HIGHLY preferable as I loathe the frat and sports scenes. However, there are quite a few clubs of various types if you know where to look.
Placement Services6While I haven't graduated yet, I do often get emails about potential jobs, programs and internships. I've also heard good things about them post-graduation.
Alumni NetworkAs I'm still attending DeVry I'm not really qualified to say yet.
