Studying Surgical Technician (completion in: 2012)

"I'm only somewhat satisfied with this school because like I stated before, it's taking way longer to get my hospital hours and cases than I was originally told."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | Teaching wise, the school is alright, but when it comes to getting into the field to practice, it's totally different. I unfortunately have had to endure all of these new rules and changes which have made the process of me attaining my surgical license a longer and more difficult one than the previous students had. |
| School Reputation | 8 | Most employers try to help you. There are a few, though, that don't really care at all. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 5 | They said the program would take 2 years, but it isn't. When it comes to doing your hours in the hospital, it's not how they told you in the beginning of the program. |
| Instruction | 7 | Some teachers really knew what they were talking about, like my anatomy & physiology teacher. Other teachers barely taught anything. |
| Cost | 7 | The price is average because afterwards I did find schools that were more expensive and others that were cheaper. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | You have mornings or afternoons to choose from. The school is open all year long as well. |
| Academic Facilities | 9 | It's easy to access the teacher and the people in charge of your program. The library and computer lab could be a bit bigger though. |
| Social Life | 4 | There's barely any school spirit there when it comes to athletics or organized social events. It's not a college. |
| Placement Services | 7 | I haven't graduated yet so I wouldn't know, but some former students have gotten jobs while others haven't. It all depends. |
| Alumni Network | 9 | Classes are small, which I like, because it's a smaller learning environment. Also, the teacher has more one on one time with you. |

Studying Massage Therapy (completion in: 2008)

• 9/25/2011
"I am not very satisfied with my experience and I wish I had gone elsewhere. I don't think Everest has much prestige and the school didn't do much for me in helping me find a job. I even missed out on some opportunities because I couldn't get my state license until I had my diploma and the school didn't send it to me in a reasonable amount of time."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | Most of my fellow graduates that I know do not work in the field. I came out of Everest feeling very ill prepared for my career. |
| School Reputation | 4 | I gave a lower than average rating to this question because I have doubts about employers looking very highly on graduates from Everest. Every time I apply for a job I am worried about this. I think that schools create a certain stigma when they advertise so heavily on television. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 2 | I believe that the nine months that I was required to attend was not adequate to prepare me for the field of work. Also, the administration kept my instructor so busy that she did not have time to give each student enough one on one time. |
| Instruction | 8 | My instructor was very good at massage and tried her best to teach her students the general principals and techniques. The only bad thing that I have to say about her is that she talked too much about her personal life and it cut into instruction time. My major problems were with the program itself. |
| Cost | 1 | I believe tuition was too expensive compared to the amount of instruction that I received. It required me to take out high interest loans that I am worried about ever being able to pay back. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | Class scheduling was pretty flexible. You could take day or night classes and that helped the students who worked during the day. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | The school had a decent sized space dedicated to massage and massage instruction that was also used as a free massage clinic on Fridays. They also offered tutoring that was administered by the top students. Also there was a computer lab available to work on projects if needed. |
| Social Life | 5 | The social experience wasn't very important to me but I did make some friends. Overall I think learning was the most important part, but I guess having people to study with helped. |
| Placement Services | 2 | The commercials on television made a big deal about job placement, but I am not impressed. They did not do much to help me find employment. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I gave this an average mark because I didn't really try to use these services. I do have a complaint, though, with the amount of time it took me to receive my diploma and transcripts. |

"I enjoyed attending Everest University and found the overall learning experience to be excellent."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Again, I enjoyed attending Everest University and would consider the learning experience to be of excellent value. I would caution others on the instructors and recommend contacting a student adviser if they found themselves to be in the same situation as myself. |
| School Reputation | 8 | Interaction with school employees consisted of enrollment and continuing education for the following semester. Reputation was not an issue. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 9 | School officials were extremely helpful and provided quick responses to any questions. Several instructors, however, did not provide responses to questions or assistance to issues that may have arisen through the semester. One instructor that I had would answer any question about an assignment with the assignment itself and nothing more detailed or helpful. |
| Instruction | 5 | See my previous answer. |
| Cost | 5 | Online classes across the board are more expensive than traditional classes, when in reality the costs of online classes to be administered should be cheaper than the costs of a traditional classroom setting. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | Online classes were offered for my program. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | There was an excellent student assistance program for report writing. |
| Social Life | 1 | Online classes prevented any social experience. |
| Placement Services | 8 | School officials were extremely helpful and provided quick responses to any questions. |

"I'm very satisfied with the school, besides some of the people having attitudes. Everything that I've experienced here has been great."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | This school has a lot to offer and I would definitively recommend this school to other working mom's that are trying to do something for their child and their self. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 6 | I would say the school is average, because for some things they just move too slowly in giving you the information. And they sometimes had attitudes. But that was about it. |
| Instruction | 10 | I love my instructors - they are very helpful. You can tell that they really care and I will be keeping in touch with them. |
| Cost | 5 | The price is affordable. They worked with me on that, which was nice. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | The timing was very flexible. I have a little girl and I am able to go to school and still help her with her homework. And on top of that, I work, so the hours are great for me. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | All the academic facilities and resources are great and the equipment is in good shape. And everything is easy to use and understandable. |
| Social Life | 10 | I really meet a lot of friends in this school. We keep in touch and we form study groups that are really helpful. I really love the fact that basic everyone in my class is friendly and helpful. |
| Placement Services | 8 | The school's job placement is excellent. The staff really knows what they are doing. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | I really have no complaints about the alumni network. They seem to be doing a good job. |

"I don't want to pay to learn something I already know. I did make that mistake, though."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | It just seemed like it was lacking in a lot of areas. There are far better schools out there. |
| School Reputation | 7 | PNC Bank supposedly partnered up with the Everest Institute in Pittsburgh, PA to give internships and jobs after graduation. That is all I know about that. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 1 | It seemed too easy. I wanted to feel more challenged. |
| Instruction | 5 | The instructors seemed to know what they were doing. The school itself seemed like it was just after money. |
| Cost | 1 | There was not enough challenge for the cost. I don't want to pay people to teach me things I already know. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | They do offer day or night classes and work with you on your schedule. They also offer plenty of online classes. |
| Academic Facilities | 2 | I'm not sure if it was just because it was a small school, but the computer lab never had enough computers. I'm not even sure there was a library. |
| Social Life | 9 | There were plenty of events. The school's social aspect was quite pleasing. |
| Placement Services | 4 | They do have career services for after you graduate. There is no help while you are still in school, though. |
| Alumni Network | 3 | I've never heard of any alumni groups. I'm sure they exist but I never saw anything about them. |

Studying Pharmacy Tech Program (completion in: 2005)

• 10/26/2011
"I do believe I learned a lot at Everest .I just don't think very many employers are looking for trained (and in my case certified) pharmacy techs right now. I know the laws are different in other states but in Michigan anyone off the street can become a tech."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | If you can get a government grant or you can get your employer to cover your tuition, go for it. The starting pay for a pharmacy tech in Michigan isn't enough to justify the debt. |
| School Reputation | 4 | I had two separate job interviews in which the interviewers actually scrunched up there faces when they read the school's name on my resume. At the first pharmacy job I had the manager even said out loud, "I'm not taking anyone else from Everest." |
| Satisfaction With Major | 7 | I feel like I learned a lot of relevant information, although employers seem to require a formal education or even encourage one. Also, the pharmacy market is not growing fast enough to handle the number of students graduating from this program every year. |
| Instruction | 10 | My instructor was a very knowledgeable person. She had worked in the industry for a long time and was able to teach us things the text book could not. |
| Cost | 2 | Most of the people attending my program qualified for full financial aid. Because I was not old enough to be considered "poor" on my own, I had to take out a student loan. I am unemployed and although I am now poor enough to qualify for a pell grant, I do not qualify because I have not paid of the rest of the loan yet. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | I did like that I could attend classes in the evening. I do not believe there was a weekend option at the time I attended. |
| Academic Facilities | 9 | Our instructor was very helpful and our lab was well though out. There was a library, although I never used it. |
| Social Life | 8 | We did have a cookout in the summer and I believe an ice cream social. Most people in the program were working full time and did not have time for outside activities. |
| Placement Services | 3 | They really did not seem interested in helping me find employment. When I did find a job in a pharmacy, it was through a personal contact and not the school. |
| Alumni Network | 1 | I really don't think they have one. If they do they don't seem concerned with me. |

"I had a great time and believe that if you put time into your studies, they help you and provide good resources."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | It did a good job of preparing me for the test. |
| School Reputation | 5 | My employer was not aware of my school, but going to school did assist me in getting the job. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 9 | Good resources and knowledgeable teachers. |
| Instruction | 5 | They provided me with the knowledge to pass the certification test, but as far as what it is like in the field, there was not enough preparation. |
| Cost | 5 | It was what I expected, though the rate of pay of the career I studied for does not allow me to pay for school without having to work a second job. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 4 | The schedule was the schedule, but they did try to work with you as much as possible. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | Nothing extravagant, but it was adequate. |
| Social Life | 10 | It was great - I had a great time and met a lot of cool people. I miss it. |
| Placement Services | 1 | No career placement help whatsoever. |
| Alumni Network | 1 | There is none. |

"I received debt and little education. I feel like I got very, very little for my money."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | As I stated before, I received very little for my money. A free library card and a little initiative would prove exponentially more useful for someone. |
| School Reputation | 1 | No employers have seemed to care that I am 90% of the way through my degree program. I did some research online and found that many alumni claim that they have had a much more difficult time finding jobs in their chosen fields than friends of theirs who held the same degrees from traditional colleges. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 1 | The staff wasn't that helpful when I failed a class and wanted to go back. They sent my excess funds directly back to the lender instead of following proper procedure. |
| Instruction | 2 | I did not prosper from the online learning environment. Everything I learned was on my own, and guided at best. I could have gotten the exact same education for free from the public library. |
| Cost | 1 | The community college I went to was half of the price of Everest. I received one on one guidance and instruction for less money at this traditional college. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | Online courses provide a complete degree of flexibility. If you have the amount of time required for the program, you can do the work because you set your own schedule. |
| Academic Facilities | 6 | I also went to a bricks and mortar community college. I experienced about the same level of resource availability at both institutions. |
| Social Life | 3 | You miss out on activities when you do an online program. There are no extracurricular activities to speak of. |
| Placement Services | I did not complete my program, so I did not get far enough to utilize the services. | |
| Alumni Network | 3 | Teachers took so long to get back to me that it wasn't worth asking a question. I felt alienated in a few instances for speaking my mind in "public forums." |

"It was everything I expected, and then some."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | You learn all that you need to learn to be a functioning technician. |
| School Reputation | 5 | Employers accept it, but you need extremely strong skills, evidence, and experience to actually get a job in the field. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 10 | The teachers were very knowledgeable and helpful. I actually looked forward to homework and going to class everyday, unlike ever before. I rarely missed school unless I absolutely had to. I graduated feeling more knowledgeable than I ever had. |
| Instruction | 10 | I felt completely prepared to go out and start working the day I graduated. I learned more in the 9 months I attended Everest than I felt I had learned in four years of high school. |
| Cost | 7 | I thought the price was a bit steep, but I think once I'm able to pay it all off, I'll feel that it was worth the price. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | When I started at Everest, I came in right before the mod started so I did not get a time slot choice, but the choice became available to me after the first mod. A new class started each month, and there were three different time slots I could choose from. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | The school had plenty of reference books, and at least three different computer labs. |
| Social Life | 10 | The school spirit was high, and so was moral. I made several friends in my nine months at Everest, and I went in figuring that I wouldn't. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I have yet to find a job. |
| Alumni Network | I have nothing bad to say, but nothing good either. |

"I was very satisfied with almost everything because I was able to learn something new. But I didn't like certain things about how things were run."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | I would recommend it if they want a program that doesn't take long, but I I'd still hesitate because of the expensive loans needed. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 6 | I was able to learn something new and different and the instructor was very friendly, but most of the lab work was never performed on time. |
| Instruction | 9 | I really enjoyed the lab work. I was able to make crowns bridges and take impressions. What I enjoyed most and found most interesting was taking x-rays, as well as learning about braces. |
| Cost | 2 | My loan was too expensive considering the fact that it was only an 8 month program. So I was always really worried about that. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | I really loved the schedule flexibility. They offered vacations just like any other school and everything was always on time. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | Every class was always clean and well managed. Everything that was needed was there. |
| Social Life | 4 | There was no school spirit. There were no athletic events or other activities going on at the campus. |
| Placement Services | 4 | Not very helpful with the job placement. Some staff members and faculty do try to help with the job placement, but not all of them do. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | They are very strict about everything. I like how they were strict with certain things, but I was also always worried about their strictness. |

"No social experiences, no academic help outside the class room, horrible experience with job/externship placement. I would not recommend Everest to anyone."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | My experience was not worth the money and time I put into it. I would recommend that someone attend a two year program at a community college before even considering Everest. |
| School Reputation | When applying for jobs, no one commented on my school. Therefore, I cannot really answer this question. | |
| Satisfaction With Major | 7 | The training I received helped me gain the confidence needed to apply for and work in the job I currently have. However, some of the school's policies were outrageous and not helpful at all in the "real world." |
| Instruction | 7 | My instructors were great and really knew the subject matter. However, some things, like proper office etiquette and office machine usage, would have been very helpful to learn. |
| Cost | 1 | It was far too expensive for the education I received. Honestly, I could have landed the job I have in medical insurance without spending the money I did at Everest. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 2 | I had a huge fight to get switched back to mornings. I had been forced to take two months off and when I came back they did not seem very interested in helping me juggle my school and work schedule. |
| Academic Facilities | 4 | What tutors? What study group? We had ignite ambassadors, of which I was one, but all we ever did was had meetings with the administration to brainstorm ideas, none of which were ever acted upon during the time I was there. |
| Social Life | 1 | What social experience? We had a Christmas party in the classroom that we did as a potluck, but that was it. |
| Placement Services | 2 | I had a lot of trouble with the job placement office because I was pregnant and trying to finish my externship before my son was born. They kept trying to make me wait until after my son was born. I had a hard time having calls returned and never received the graduation information until it was too late to be in the program. |
| Alumni Network | I know nothing about my school's alumni network. So, I can't tell you anything about it. |

"I felt like overall, this school was very good and professors were knowledgeable;"
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend this school because overall, the school is very good and people here are caring. |
| School Reputation | 5 | I didn't notice if the employers that interviewed me really cared where I had gone to school. |
| Satisfaction With Major | 9 | Some of what I was told in the beginning was not exactly true. |
| Instruction | 5 | I couldn't understand some of the instructors because they were from other countries. |
| Cost | 5 | I feel the cost was the same as most schools for the medical assistant programs. |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | They were very flexible with their schedules. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | The computer program that was taught for this program was out of date. |
| Social Life | This is a tech school - no athletics or social events. | |
| Placement Services | 5 | The only thing they did was fax resumes to all open positions in the San Antonio area. |

| Academic Facilities | 9 | The teachers and my adviser were always there when I needed to talk. They were great about trying to accommodate everyone. |
