About the School

First Institute was established to provide education for high growth careers. The institute offers certificates in the fields of massage therapy, medical assistant and medical office specialist. The programs blend theory and practice.

Academic Programs

  • Dental Assisting - Offers students the training they need to obtain entry level jobs in dental offices, including how to prep the examination room for patient exams and basic administrative duties.
  • Massage Therapy – The program offers training in massage styles such as Swedish, hot stone, chair, deep tissue and sports massage. Training in aromatherapy and reflexology are also included.
  • Medical Office Specialist – Provides a foundation in the various aspects of working in a medical office. Training is provided in medical billing & coding, medical records, medical terminology, HIPPA & OSHA compliance and medical office software.
  • Medical Assistant – Students are trained in a variety of administrative duties and the various aspects of assisting doctor's and other healthcare personnel. Training is offered in EKG, medical terminology, minor surgical procedures, vital signs, HIPPA & OSHA compliance, medical billing & coding and urinalysis.

Faculty

The experienced instructors have expertise in their field of teaching. The small class sizes allow the instructors to offer personalized attention to their students.

Student Life

The student population consists of enrollees from various backgrounds and ages. The school has mostly female students and most are in-state residents. The Placement Department representatives assist graduates in finding employment. The representatives work with Midwest employers, assisting them in choosing the most appropriate First Institute graduates for their job openings.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Financial aid, such as grants and loans, are available to qualified students. Financial aid representatives assist students with the application process for financial assistance. Students that have been laid-off, are low income or long-term unemployed may be eligible to receive a training grant at First Institute via the Workforce Investment Act from the Illinois Employment and Training Centers. In addition, First Institute offers scholarships to qualified graduating Illinois high school seniors that are interested in massage therapy and healthcare programs.
