About Goodwin College
Goodwin College began in 1962 as the Data Institute Business School. The college offers degrees and certificates in career-focused programs in business, health and clinical science, marketing, management and computer science. Practical learning is a major part of the programs.
Goodwin College Academic Programs
Shown below is a selection of the programs offered by Goodwin College:
- Nursing – The program emphasizes hands-on training. Students are prepared for employment opportunities in physician offices, hospitals, home healthcare, long-term care facilities and other settings.
- Medical Assisting – Provides comprehensive training in administrative and clinical procedures. Graduates may seek employment in family medical practices, health centers, urgent care clinics, dialysis centers and other medical settings. The graduates have the opportunity to take the Certified Medical Assistant examination.
- Paramedic – The curriculum offers comprehensive training in emergency care. Training is provided in evaluating a patient's condition and providing pre-hospital advanced life support. The program is based on the National Standard Paramedic Curriculum from the Department of Transportation Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The program combines clinical, classroom, laboratory and field education.
- Environmental Studies – Local outdoor areas serve as a hands-on laboratory to perform environmental studies. Graduates of the program may seek employment as science, environmental health and field monitoring technicians as well as laboratory assistants and other positions.
- Phlebotomy – Provides training in specimen collecting and processing, laboratory procedures and quality control testing. The program blends practical learning and theory. Students are prepared for the Registered Phlebotomy Technical exam.
- Respiratory Care – Students are trained in the essential diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Graduates have opportunities for employment in acute care hospitals, home care settings, rehabilitation and long term care facilities and other settings.

Faculty
The instructors are experts in their field. The full-time faculty members have at a minimum, a master's degree. The student to teacher ratio is about 12 to 1.
Student Life
The diverse student population consists of more than one thousand enrollees. The majority of the students are female. The students have opportunities to participate in academic societies, clubs, organizations and community and religious outreach programs. In addition, the career services department provides internships and helps graduates find employment.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Students must have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent to attend Goodwin College and also have an interview with an admissions representative. In addition, financial aid advisors assist students in searching for financial assistance. Goodwin College also offers scholarships each year.
