About the School

Formerly named Indiana Business College, Harrison College offers five schools of study and over 30 career-oriented programs in the areas of business, healthcare, IT, criminal justice and veterinary. Harrison College offers bachelor's and associate degrees, diplomas and certificates. The school also provides online programs. According to the college, their curriculums are based on input from business leaders and industry growth trends.

The college was founded in 1902 by a former educator, Charles Cring, in Marion, Indiana. Mr. Cring originally started what was then known as Marion Business College because he saw a need in Indiana's growing economy for workers trained in business skills. As the school expanded to new campuses during the early 1900s it was named Indiana Business College. The most recent name change to Harrison College is intended to reflect a history of leadership in Indiana and the Midwest, and to reflect the growth of the school beyond the state of Indiana.

Academic Programs

The college offers more than 30 career-oriented programs across its five schools. Program availability may vary by campus location. Schools and study areas include:

  • School of Health Sciences – Programs encompass career areas such as health care management, medical assistant, medical laboratory technology, nursing, Spanish for the medical community, surgical technology, therapeutic massage, and more.
  • School of Veterinary Technology – This school's veterinary technician curriculum is designed to ready students for clinical work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
  • School of Information Technology – Offers programs for administration of networks, systems, and help desks.
  • School of Criminal Justice – Programs cover studies in corrections, law enforcement, courts, and investigation.
  • School of Business – Available program areas include: accounting, finance, management, marketing, human resources, administrative professional, and more.

A selection of featured programs from these schools include:

  • Office Manager – The program offers training in the latest office technology and emphasizes computer literacy. Provides a solid foundation in creating presentations, planning and organizing meetings, keeping an office organized, dealing with outside vendors and other issues.
  • Medical Assistant – The program offers the skills required to be proficient in front and back office tasks. Students learn to handle paperwork and scheduling, assist with minor medical procedures, measure vital signs, perform basic diagnostic tests and other tasks.
  • Network Technician – Graduates have the opportunity to seek employment as assistant network technicians and junior network administrators. The program offers a solid foundation in technology skills regarding hardware and software, networking and operating systems. Business skills are also provided.

Faculty

The instructors are experienced in their teaching field. Due to the typical 16 to 1 student to teacher ratio, the instructors are able to provided personalized assistance.

Student Life

School representatives provide career planning and assist with selecting programs. School personnel also provide interviewing skills, assist with resume preparation and help graduates find employment. In addition, the IBC Careerlink database includes employment opportunities. An online career library is also available.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Applicants must have a high school diploma or a GED certificate and pass the Scholastic Level Exam to be admitted to Harrison College.

For tuition, the school has a tuition freeze policy that holds tuition costs at a constant level as long as a student is continuously enrolled in a degree program, including diplomas and certificate programs. For financial aid, eligible students are provided with federal grants and loans and other types of aid. The vast majority of the students receive some type of financial assistance. Over 90% of Harrison students receive financial aid.
