About the School
Health Training Center offers short-term, specialized career training in some of the most popular healthcare careers. The school's main campus is in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with six other locations throughout Massachusetts. Health Training Center is able to keep tuition affordable by keeping the school's operating costs low. The Center's Director is Dr. Stanton Rome, a provider a health care courses for over 20 years. All programs are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
Academic Programs
Health Training Center offers the following six certificate programs:
- Medical Assistant – Program teaches the clinical skills needed to work in exam rooms in medical offices, HMOs, clinics, and hospitals. Graduates are automatically eligible for Medical Assistant National Registration without further exams or waiting period. Students must complete a Practicum.
- Medical Billing – Program teaches skills for students to obtain coding and billing positions in medical offices, hospitals, private firms specializing in this field, or insurance firms. Students will also learn about insurance programs and contracts, and prepares students to take the national Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam upon completion of an Internship.
- Medical Assistant and Coder – Dual major provides two areas of specialization by combining five courses in the Medical Assistant Certificate plus two Medical Billing courses.
- Phlebotomy Technician – Program trains students to draw blood so they can work in hospitals, clinics, emergency and extended care facilities, private medical offices or laboratories.
- Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician – Cross-training program in EKG and Phlebotomy. Certificate is awarded after completion of both courses and the Practicum.
- Pharmacy Technician – Program trains students to work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, home health agencies, retail pharmacies and mail order providers. Teaches the skills to enable students to assist pharmacists in preparing traditional pill medication, intravenous solutions, as well as monitoring proper delivery and usage of products.
Learning Options
Class schedules at Health Training Center are flexible, with offerings during the day, night, and weekends. Classes start six times per year, and students choose from seven convenient locations in Massachusetts. With the exception of the Cambridge location, all classes are held in rented spaces such as churches and hospitals, reducing costs and expenses while maintaining quality learning settings. Students are required to complete a Success Strategies Practicum Lab, teaching good study, note taking and test preparation skills. Class sizes are small allowing for personal attention.
Faculty
Students benefit from knowledgeable faculty, who are professionals with industry-specific experience. The school's instructors include doctors, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, medical assistants, medical billers and coders, RNs and LPNs, and phlebotomists.
Student Life
Seven locations throughout Massachusetts are offered for classes: Attleboro/Providence, Brockton/Stoughton, Lynn, Chelmsford/Lowell, Milford/Woonsocket, and Worcester. The school's Success Strategies Practicum Lab helps students who need assistance with studying, as well as with job preparation and search skills. Lifetime job placement assistance is provided.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Health Training Center requires all students to have earned a high school diploma, G.E.D., CNA License, or an equivalent. In addition, all students must be able to read, speak, and comprehend English at the 10th grade level. The Phlebotomy and Medical Assistant programs have additional requirements. Registration forms must be completed by each students and can be submitted by on-line, mail, or fax.
Health Training Center offers payment plans with no finance, interest, or service charges. Financial aid may be provided in case of unemployment by the state's Rehabilitation Commission or career center. The school is also a VA approved program.
