About the School

Since 1999, The Los Angeles Film School has been training students for careers in the entertainment industry. The curriculum at The Los Angeles Film School is taught by industry professionals, and integrates technical knowledge with artistic exploration and creativity. The school is committed to providing the best learning environment possible through top-rate facilities, including over 20 labs, a 4,000 square foot Hollywood sound stage and a 345-seat THX certified theater.

The Los Angeles Film School offers three Associate of Science degree programs in film, computer animation and game production. All programs are accelerated and can be completed in 14 months or less. Programs start monthly, with classes graduating on a monthly basis as well. The Los Angeles Film School is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC).

Academic Programs

The Los Angeles Film School offers three Associate of Science degree programs:

  • Film – Program training students in professional filmmaking, covering technical and creative aspects of movie making. Includes topics such as techniques in directing, cinematography, editing, and art direction. Students learn on professional equipment and have the opportunity to produce their own film project.
  • Computer Animation – Program focusing on applications of 3D computer graphics to develop games, commercials, television shows, virtual theme park attractions, and films. Students train on powerful computer technology and gain practical skills to begin a career in animation.
  • Game Production – Program lasting 14 months and designed to immerse students in game production. Topics include game theory and design, programming and storytelling, among many others. Students will also be collaborating and competing with each other to get an original game into production.

All programs include a foundation in general education such as time management, resume writing, and communication skills, to help students develop the necessary skills to help launch a career.

Learning Options

New courses begin each month, and students can expect classes, labs and production schedules to change from month to month. Students spend approximately 30-40 hours per week in the classroom, and programs can be completed in 14 months or less.

Located in the heart of Hollywood, the faculty at The Los Angeles Film School have extensive industry experience and are active studio professionals. The faculty are talented in their respective areas and are eager to help students.

Student Life

The Los Angeles Film School is a commuter school with no residential housing facilities, but is in close proximity to many theaters, music, restaurants and museums. The school has four locations in Hollywood with over 150,000 square feet of facilities including labs, sound stages, and a THX-certified 345-seat theater. The school also has a lounge for students to enjoy.

Admissions and Financial Aid

The Los Angeles Film School does not require any previous entertainment experience. All incoming students must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED. Students must also be competent in English. In addition, students in the game production program must be comfortable working with the Windows computer system, and students in the computer animation program should possess artistic skills and previous art class experience. Students should plan on visiting the school and interviewing with an Admissions Representative to discuss personal, education, and occupational plans.

The school's Financial Aid Department is available to meet with each student to create an individual financial aid package. Approximately 75% of the school's students receive some sort of financial aid. The school offers Federal loans and grants, and alternative loans for qualified students.
