About the School
Founded in 1905, Marinello Schools of Beauty have been educating students for careers in the beauty industry for over 100 years. The schools have been under the ownership of B&H Education, Inc. since 2004, and have 41 locations throughout Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Utah. Several programs are offered for all levels of students including hair care, skin care, nail care, massage therapy, CIDESCO certification, and teacher training, with the goal of providing educational training to prepare students for state licensing exams. Marinello schools also offer advanced education programs for professionals desiring new skills in order to enhance his or her career.
Academic Programs
Marinello Schools of Beauty offers the following diploma and certificate programs leading to state licensing:
- Hair Care – Program concentrating mainly on hair but also briefly covers skin and nails, and includes courses such as haircutting and styling, coloring, and salon management.
- Skin Care – Program covering skin analysis, facials, hair removal, exfoliation, body care, makeup, and salon management, among others.
- CIDESCO International Certification – One of only seven schools nationwide teaching to CIDESCO standards including facial techniques and body therapies. Students receive a CIDESCO diploma upon completion, the highest qualification in the esthetics industry.
- Nail Care – Program teaching the art and science of professional nails, including the anatomy, physiology and pathology of nails and skin, as well as nail care techniques and products.
- Teacher Training – Program training students for a career as a cosmetology teacher, including effective communications, lesson planning and presentations, to name a few.
- Massage Therapy – Program training students for a career as a massage therapist covering topics such as Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, and sports massage, among others.
- Advanced Education – Specialty programs for career enhancement teaching innovative techniques, including programs in makeup, hair color, hair design, skin and body care, and salon business skills.
Learning Options
Classes at Marinello Schools of Beauty are diversified, with lectures, live demonstrations, guest speakers, videos, and practical application. After the first phase of each program, students begin working on mannequins as well as patrons, with all salon and spa services performed by student stylists on patrons supervised by licensed instructors. In addition, Marinello helps prepare students for licensing exams, and give "mock board exams" to students. The schools have an open enrollment policy, with classes starting frequently on either a bi-weekly or monthly basis.
Faculty
Marinello Schools of Beauty hires faculty that are licensed professionals with industry-specific experience in the cosmetology and massage therapy fields.
Student Life
Each of the 41 campus locations of Marinello schools are designed to assimilate a salon environment for the purpose of beauty education, with classrooms equipped with the latest visual and teaching aids. Students learn on the same professional beauty equipment that is found at the top salons in the United States. The staff and faculty at Marinello Schools of Beauty try to prepare students for a career in beauty, and have career services to assist with finding a job throughout the salon and beauty industry.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Students interested in attending Marinello Schools of Beauty must first submit an application for admission, which can be found online or at any campus location. Students must be at least 17 years of age to begin training. Students who do not have a high school diploma or GED certificate must pass the ATB (Ability to Benefit) test offered at the school. Students are also encouraged to tour the campus and meet with an Admissions Advisor.
Marinello schools offer a variety of student aid for applicants who qualify, both private and government programs, such as Pell Grants, Stafford and PLUS loans, Federal Work-Study, as well as other funding sources. Students should contact the Admissions Department to schedule an appointment to determine the best financing options.
