About the School

Established in the 1860's, Miami-Jacobs Career College provides associate degrees, certificates and diplomas in a variety of career subjects. According to the college, they regularly create new curriculums and refresh their collection of programs to meet the demands of the market. Hands-on training is a major part of the programs.

Academic Programs

Program areas are numerous. Several of these include:

  • Automotive Technician – Students are trained to diagnose and repair engines, automatic transmissions, manual drive, steering and suspension, heating and air conditioning, brakes as well as ignition, fuel and exhaust systems. Electronic troubleshooting is emphasized.
  • Business Office Manager – Teaches skills needed to coordinate administrative support of offices, including planning and supervising the work of office staff.
  • Court Reporting – Trains enrollees to be verbatim court reporters. Students are trained in multi-voice dictation, transcribing testimony and utilizing computer aided transcription systems. A review of courtroom and freelance procedures is included.
  • Criminal Justice – The training provides opportunities for employment in areas such as public safety, corrections, the court system, crime prevention and private security.
  • Esthetics/Skin Care – Provides training in facials, basic and advanced face and body treatments, relaxation massage and make-up design. Students are prepared to take the state board of esthetics exam.
  • Legal Office Assistant – Offers the fundamentals and specific skills necessary to work with lawyers, legal clinics, corporations, courts, government agencies and other settings. Enrollees learn to prepare legal documents and are provided with a broad understanding of procedural law.
  • Medical Assisting – Offers a strong foundation in clinical medical office procedures, administrative tasks and computer skills. Enrollees also learn to perform basic lab tests.
  • Medical Office Management – Teaches management skills in private medical office settings and covers accounting, health information systems, risk management, and terminology.
  • Nail Technology – Skills are provided in electric filing, manicures and pedicures, nail art and other procedures.
  • Practical Nursing – Readies students for careers as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Studies include patient care, customer service, analysis, and accountability and responsibilities of patient wellness.

Student Life

Most of the students attend the college on a full-time basis. Career Readiness Seminars offer advice in searching for employment, writing resumes and other topics. The students also have access to career advocates.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Applicants must have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent. Concerning education costs, school personnel assist students with acquiring financial aid, such as federal grants and loans and state grants. Most of the students do receive some type of financial assistance.
