About Miller-Motte Technical College

Miller-Motte Technical College was established by Judge Leon Motte in 1916 in Wilmington North Carolina. Today, the school provides undergraduate degrees and certificates in the fields of Business, Cosmetology/Esthetics, Computers, Healthcare, Information Technology, Legal/Criminal Justice and Trades. The programs blend theoretical and practical learning. The school notes that it monitors the needs of industries and strives to offer students the skills that are in demand by employers. Miller-Motte Technical College Academic Programs

The college offers a large number of academic programs. A selection of the programs that are offered at most of the campuses include:

  • Cosmetology – Offers scientific/art principles and practical learning. In addition, the program utilizes a simulated salon setting.
  • Esthetics Technology – The curriculum is designed to offer the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the licensing examination. Training is provided in skin structure, facials, diseases and disorders, body treatments, microdermabrasion and aromatherapy.
  • Massage Therapy – Students learn to perform medical/clinical massage therapy. The program also includes a solid foundation in business skills.
  • Medical Assisting – Enrollees learn the basics in administrative and clinical procedures. Students are prepared to take the AAMA Certification Examination for Medical Assistants Credential.
  • Surgical Technology – Enrollees are provided the knowledge and skills required to be part of a surgical team. Graduates may seek employment as a surgical, or circulating or second assisting technologist.
  • Medical Office Assistant – Program is structured to provide front-office skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, insurance coding and procedures and managing medical records. Computational skills are emphasized.

Student Life

Students and alumni have access to career services such as assistance with job searching, resume writing, resources portfolio workshops and career counseling. The college offers a variety of student clubs, special event days, academic awards and recognition and a student advisory council.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Applications are accepted all year long. The college provides admissions counselors to guide applicants through the admissions process. An SAT score is not required, however, students must take a placement test. Federal and state aid are provided to those who qualify. In addition, benefits are provided through the Vocational Rehabilitation program and the Work Force Investment Act.
