About Nova Southeastern University Online
Founded in 1964, Nova Southeastern University, also known as NSU or Nova, is an independent, private university located in Broward County, Florida. As of 2010 NSU had grown to become the nation's seventh largest, not-for-profit, independent university, with more than 28,000 students and 103,000 alumni. Nova Southeastern University Online's programs include undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees, enabling students to participate in coursework from all over the world.
Academic Programs
Nova Southeastern University offers many degree programs through distance education, including online undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate programs. A few of the programs offered at NSU include:
- Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning - Elementary Reading - Designed for classroom practitioners by connecting theories to classroom practices for primary reading strategies and language. Studies are broken up into blocks that review specific subjects. Classroom work includes interactions with peers, interactive applications, and videos. The program can be completed in less than a year.
- Master of Science in Computer Science - Designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the field that serves as a foundation for related careers. Coursework blends theory and practice to facilitate problem solving skills. This degree can be earned in as little as 18 months.
- Master of Science in Information Security - Studies address threats and vulnerabilities, cryptography, authentication and access control, security models, network security, trusted computer systems, distributed systems security, World Wide Web security, applications security, and security management and policies. Because this degree is recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA), it is possible for Federal civilians and military personnel to take courses under government sponsorship.
- Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science - Offered in a hybrid format that includes traditional and online instruction to enable students to continue working in their current jobs. Targeted for those in industry, education, or government working with one of the numerous fields of computer science. The program is designed to give research-oriented professionals advanced knowledge in the major areas of computer science and the skills for solving complex real-world problems. Each student completes eight core courses, two research project courses, and a dissertation.
Learning Options
Distance education at Nova Southeastern University includes several different delivery systems and all refer to coursework delivered outside of the Fort Lauderdale campus area. Generally, students in online programs can participate via the Internet from all over the world, with a Web-based instructional platform. Coursework is interactive, with a combination of synchronous and asynchronous communication through electronic classrooms, online threaded discussions and chats. In addition to online technologies, students may also utilize high-quality textbooks to complete coursework.
Faculty

Student Life

Admissions and Financial Aid
Admissions requirements vary by program and students should complete an application and submit any official transcripts from previous and current schools. In addition, test scores, recommendation letters, among others, may be required.
