About the School
Founded in 1986, the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting has been training students for successful careers in radio, television and production. Through an intensive hands-on training program, students learn all aspects of broadcasting and are awarded a diploma upon completion of the program. The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting is located in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Denver, Colorado. Each location has fully-equipped television and radio studios with cutting edge technologies.
Classes are taught by industry's top professionals from local television and radio studios, and students are given the opportunity to participate in internships with local stations as well as professional sports teams. The school is a member of the National Association for Broadcasters and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
Academic Programs
The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting offers a 10-month, intensive and hands-on program covering all aspects of television and radio broadcasting. Within this program, a vast array of courses are offered, including: reading and speaking techniques, news writing and announcing, writing and performing for the camera, and TV reporting, among many others. The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting also offers internships for interested students at local radio and television studios, giving students additional hands-on training and workplace experience. Students receive a diploma in Radio and Television Broadcasting upon graduation, and are prepared for entry-level employment in the broadcasting industry.
Learning Options
Classes at the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting meet three days a week, Monday through Friday, with day, afternoon and evening options. The school generally does not allow the size of classes to exceed 30 students.
Faculty
All five locations of the Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting are staffed by industry broadcast professionals. Faculty all have extensive experience and include local on-air radio and television personalities.
Student Life
The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting offers students five commuter locations. The school will assist students with relocation by helping to find suitable and affordable places to live, as there is no campus housing available. All students at the school desire to be successful broadcasters and work closely together at their well-equipped television and radio studios. Each campus location offers an on-air Internet radio stations with student-staffed programming.
Admissions and Financial Aid
The Ohio and Illinois Centers for Broadcasting required applicants to have a high school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED. Each student must also undergo a live audition measuring the applicant's vocal skills relative to articulation, reading skills, breathing, and voice quality and strength. Applicants must achieve an average of seven on the tests in order to be admitted, with each skill measured on a scale of one to 10. Applicants should contact the school to meet the Director and arrange a time to tour the campus.
Financial aid is available to qualified students. The school's Financial Aid Office is available to meet with each student to create an individual financial aid package.
