The programs emphasize hands-on training. The institute also offers certification preparation classes. The campus includes computer labs and numerous specialty labs. Pittsburgh Technical Institute Academic Programs
The Institute's programs are organized around several schools, including:
- School of Building Technology – Systems Integration students learn to combine computers, electronics and design to build wiring systems for building and renovation projects. HVAC technicians learn the techniques necessary for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration installation.
- School of Business – There are several areas of concentration in the business school. For example the accounting track is for students who are detail-oriented with strong math and problem-solving skills. The management track is designed to instill leadership skills with employees and with servicing customers. The marketing track teaches presentation skills and how to stay current on business trends and consumer demand. The retail management concentration covers topics related to customer focus, marketing proficiency, design and analytical skills.
- School of Criminal Justice – The school's module in Safety and Security Administration places graduates in entry-level opportunities in both public and private sector jobs.
- School of Design – With options in Computer Aided Drafting, Graphic Design and Multimedia Technologies, programs are designed to foster individual expression of creativity while preparing for some of the most in-demand positions in the field.
- School of Healthcare – Medical Assisting, Medical Coding, Office Administration, Surgical Technology and Therapeutic Massage Practitioner are all areas of study available to students.
- School of Technology – Tracks for technical-focused students cover Computer Programming, Electronics Engineering Technology, Network Administration, Network Security and Computer Forensics as well as Microsoft Certification Preparation.

- Business Administration Associate Degree – The curriculum offers a review of the fundamentals of business. Customer service, Internet sales and e-commerce are also studied.
- Electronics Engineering Technology Associate Degree – Provides a solid foundation in the various aspects of engineering technology, such as digital fundamentals, basic electricity and industrial electronics.
- IT-Network Administration – The curriculum emphasizes network infrastructures, hardware, network engineering and server applications.
- Medical Assisting – The program offers a broad review of clinical techniques, medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology as well as diseases and diagnostic methods.
- Multimedia Technologies – Includes training in broadcast graphics, digital imaging, computer illustration and 3-dimensional animation.
- Surgical Technology Associate Degree – Students are prepared to work as part of a team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other personnel during operations and before and after surgeries.
- Computer Programming Associate Degree – Offers the basics of computer programming, including internet programming, the UNIX Operating system and GUI development.

Student Life
The main campus has about 2,000 students. About 80% of the students are in-state residents. Regarding employment, on-campus interviews and job fairs are provided by the career services department. Students and graduates are also offered career placement services. In addition, the school offers a wide variety of events, activities and student organizations. The institute also sponsors housing, including apartments and residents halls in nearby neighborhoods.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Admissions representatives assist students with the admissions procedure. In order to attend Pittsburgh Technical Institute, students must have a high school diploma or a GED credential. SAT and ACT scores are not necessary. Regarding financial aid, grants, scholarships and loans are available for eligible students. The institute's financial planners help students put together a financial aid package. Also, out-of-state students pay the same tuition fees as in-state residents.
