About the School

Founded in 1985 Platt College provides undergraduate and diploma studies that are designed to put individuals on the career path of their choice. With a motto of "Achieving excellence one student at a time," the school places emphasis on professional and personal growth of their students.

The College's mission is to blend knowledge with training so that students develop the skills they need to excel professionally. Platt reports that it continuously evaluates its programs to align them with the needs of employers.

Academic Programs

Platt programs include the following areas:

  • Graphic Design – Students take courses that teach them the fundamental theories and methods of design. They learn to identify and apply basic design principles of layout, color theory, typography, drawing, publishing, digital imaging, digital media, as well as deductive and strategic thinking.
  • Medical Assisting – Participants learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical billing and coding. Medical Assisting majors also receive training in first aid and emergency care, CPR, clinical pharmacology, nutrition and laboratory procedures. An externship component is included to provide individuals hands-on experience prior to graduation.
  • Medical Administrative Specialist – Enrollees learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical billing and coding. Medical Administrative Specialist students take classes in computerized offices, medical office procedures, human resources and risk management. There is also an externship that provides students will a real working experience.
  • Paralegal Studies – The college offers degree and diploma programs in Paralegal Studies, Legal Writing, Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Contracts and Family Law.
  • Visual Communications – The 3D Animation/Video track teaches multimedia and animation technologies, including 3D modeling. Students are prepared to produce digital content for a variety of industry opportunities. An Interactive/Web Specialization track teaches the fundamentals of Visual Communication with a concentration on interactivity and a focus on creation of online projects. A Multimedia program teaches industry-standard software fundamentals, terminology and key concepts of multimedia video production. Students get a background in Internet/web page design, 3D modeling and animation graphics.

Student Life

Platt is a commuter College. It does not have on-campus housing. The school notes that its student regularly make life-long connections in classes that help them in their future careers.

Platt's locations have on-campus libraries with thousands of titles, dozens of subscriptions and over 100 audiovisual resources.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Applicants are required to have a high school diploma or its equivalent. Prospective students are required to submit an essay or personal statement of interest in their program of choice, as well as participate in an interview with an Admissions officer. Interested students can contact the Admissions Staff or fill out an online Request Information form to start the application process.

Platt's Financial Aid Department can help eligible students by coordinating applications for federal, state, institutional and private assistance programs. Students may be qualified to receive aid from grants, scholarships or loans.
