About Portland State University Online

Founded in 1946, Portland State University (PSU) is a public university part of the Oregon University System. Committed to lifelong learning, the Hatfield School of Government at PSU has offered a comprehensive online Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice since 2006. Designed for working professionals, students unable to attend campus programs are able to participate in this comprehensive program, receiving a criminology and criminal justice education from anywhere around the world. Academic Programs

A featured program is PSU Online's Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The program is designed to be comprehensive and for working professionals, and covers the study of crime, justice, criminal prevention, as well as the contributing factors to criminal behavior, among other topics. Students in this program will explore all areas of the criminal justice system in order to advance their careers and create safer communities. Students may attend full or part-time, with full-time students able to complete coursework in approximately one year.

Learning Options

There are four program start dates throughout the year in fall, winter, spring or summer. Students may take as many courses as they desire, with all courses completed entirely online. Coursework is accessible 24 hours a day, with students spending 10-20 hours per week on average studying.

Faculty

Faculty members are highly qualified and knowledgeable in the field of criminal justice. Class sizes are small, allowing faculty to provide personalized attention.

Student Life

Online programs are flexible, with students choosing how fast to complete the program, working around existing work and life commitments. Students receive technical support as well as a full-time Program Manager to provide assistance throughout the program. In addition, all students participate in an orientation to online courses before they start the program.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Applications for admission are accepted four times per year, with applicants required to have a minimum of 30 semester hours of transferable college work. In addition, students must have achieved a GPA of at least 2.25.

Federal financial aid is available to qualified students, and interested applicants should complete the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). The Office of Financial Aid is available to assist students throughout the process.
