About the School

Founded in 1937 as the Salter School, Salter College is a private, two-year, career-focused institution with programs in business and healthcare fields. Salter seeks to best balance professional, career-oriented education with a liberal arts education. Salter College is part of Premier Education Group, a career-training education provider with campuses throughout the Northeast US.

The school’s mission is to “offer students a challenging, intensive program of study leading to satisfying business and professional careers.” Offering classroom learning as well as on-the-job training and placement services, Salter concentrates on career preparation or enhancing careers through skill training.

Academic Programs

The college focuses on many career-track programs, including these areas of study:

  • Accounting – Students can earn degrees through coursework in business and liberal arts. The program prepares students for roles in financial departments such as bookkeepers, customer service representatives, and account clerks.
  • Office Administration – The curriculum focuses on computer and analytical skills, as well as humanities and social sciences to help develop interpersonal and decision-making skills. Students can earn degrees or certificates in medical, legal, or executive office administration.
  • Massage Therapy – The program trains students in massage therapy techniques, as well as business skills such as communication and human relations.
  • Healthcare – Students can choose to specialize in medical billing and coding, which concentrates on insurance and billing procedures; or medical assisting, which trains students in clinical and administrative procedures.
  • Culinary Arts – The program prepares students for careers in food service preparation. Coursework includes classroom and hands-on subjects teaching baking, cooking, and catering, as well as cost control, nutrition, and sanitation.

Learning Options

Day and evening class times are available so that working students can remain employed while attending courses. The library, student, and career services all have evening hours to accommodate night school students as well.

Courses are offered every five weeks, and associate degrees can be earned in as little as 18 months. Students spend an average of three months completing externships, which are available for most programs.

Faculty members are chosen based on local work experience and commitment to education.

Student Life

The school makes efforts to help students find employment. A career services staff assists each student in securing jobs in their selected field through career days, alumni networking, job-search advising and resume preparation.

The student body is largely female.

Admissions and Financial Aid

The college has a rolling admissions policy, and courses are offered every five weeks.

The school participates in many financial aid programs, and the college offers assistance securing grants and loans through scholarships, federal, state, and private grants and loans. The vast majority of students receive some sort of financial aid.
