About the School

SAE Institute was founded as The School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in 1976. The institute has 50 campuses worldwide including campuses in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. The SAE Institute of San Francisco and SAE Institute of Los Angeles provide training for jobs in the recording and post production industries.

Academic Programs

Example programs available from SAE Institute include:

• Electronic Music Production Certificate program - Includes four sections: Audio Engineering & Music Fundamentals; Composition, Recording & Production; Creating Original Sounds & Advanced Techniques and Getting It Together & Putting It Out. Students learn to record, edit, assemble and prepare effects for recordings based on sampled and electronically created sounds. The program covers digital and analog audio capture techniques, filters, signal flow, and specific electronic music production software. Students create audio mixes for TV, radio, DVD recordings, CD recordings and DJ sessions.
• Audio Technology Diploma program - Students are prepared for entry-level positions in the technical and business sides of the music and broadcasting industries. The program provides a solid foundation in topics including studio equipment, audio technology, advanced studio equipment, digital audio software, advanced record engineering and production and advanced engineering, and digital audio applications. The program also provides special workshops on various subjects. In addition, every week students are provided studio time to record and mix projects. The program can be completed in nine months

Students may attend SAE Institute of San Francisco and SAE Institute of Los Angeles on a full-time or part-time basis.

Faculty

The classes at SAE Institute of San Francisco and SAE Institute of Los Angeles are taught by industry professionals.
