About the School
South Texas Vocational Technical Institute, established in 1973, offers career training in the fields of healthcare, automotive repair, business, computers, English as a second language, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). Since its founding, South Texas Vo-Tech has graduated over 15,000 students. The programs focus on offering specialized skills.
Academic Programs
The institute offers a variety of career-oriented programs. Several of these include:
- Automotive Service Technician – Offers hands-on training to prepare graduates for entry-level jobs in general or specialized automotive services. Training is provided in conventional and computerized electrical systems, brakes, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition systems and computerized diagnostic systems. Provides the skills and knowledge necessary for ASE Certification.
- Computer Accounting Specialist – The program blends classroom learning with laboratory training. Students are prepared for entry-level jobs as a bookkeeper, accounting assistant and an auditing clerk.
- Intensive English Language – Designed for enrollees whose first language is not English. The program offers a solid foundation in listening/reading and speaking/writing.
- Clinical Laboratory Technician – Offers a thorough review of basic laboratory calculations, computer medical manager tasks and the fundamentals of clinical laboratories.
- Dental Assisting – Includes training in front-office procedures, radiology and dental laboratory techniques. The program also provides externships.
- Medical Administrative Assisting Technology Program – Offers extensive training in the fields of clinical coding specialist, patient information coordinator, records technologist and insurance claims analyst.
- Massage Therapy – Provides comprehensive training in the art and sciences of massage therapy. Swedish massage, aromatherapy, sports massage and other techniques are included.

Student Life
Most students are female. The enrollees are provided with various activities via the student association. The Career Services department assists graduates on a continuous basis in finding employment. The school also helps students find part-time jobs.
Admissions and Financial Aid
The institute admits students that have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent. Students must also be interviewed by an admissions representative. The financial aid office representatives help determine a student's eligibility for financial assistance. Federal, state, local and private financial aid programs are available.
