About Stetson University Online

Founded in 1883, Stetson University is a small, private university located in Central Florida. Stetson University offers an online Master of Accountancy (MAcc) degree program, designed to train students for careers in public accounting and business. The MAcc degree gives a convenient option for working tax professionals, training students for the CPA exam, with no courses scheduled from late February to early April during tax season. The MAcc program at Stetson is fully accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SASC).

Academic Programs

The Master of Accountancy online program at Stetson University was designed to provide students with the necessary academic requirements for the CPA examination and a successful career in accounting. Consisting of ten courses, the MAcc program provides students with the 30 credit hours required for licensing in most states, and give students the necessary accounting knowledge and skills. The ten courses include: Contemporary Issues in Business Law, Tax Research, Governmental & Not-for-Profit, Cases in Financial Accounting & Reporting, Contemporary Issues in Information Systems and Controls, Current Issues in Accounting, Advanced Auditing, Contemporary Issues and Cases in Managerial, Advanced Accounting Theory, and Contemporary Issues in the Interface of Business and Accounting.

Learning Options

Courses are five weeks in length and students have the option of starting the program nine times per year, with the program taking one year to complete. The program was designed for tax professionals and provides a study break during the tax season from late February until April. All coursework is completed online, with students spending an average of 15 to 20 hours on coursework each week. Class sizes are small, allowing for personal and professional relationships to be formed.

Faculty

The accounting faculty at Stetson University are highly qualified, all with CPAs and experience in industry or public accounting. In addition, most have doctoral degrees and have been published in professional journals. In addition, many faculty members have received awards at the local, national, and international levels.

Student Life

Stetson University provides support throughout the program, with staff and faculty helping students with any program and course questions or issues. In addition, technical support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Interested students must have a bachelor's degree in business or accounting, with certain business and accounting foundation classes required. Applicants must also have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, and a GMAT score of at least 500. Stetson University may also consider other factors such as work experience and professional activities. Financial aid is limited to graduate students, but interested applicants should contact the Office of Financial Aid for assistance. In addition, students should check with their employer regarding the availability of a tuition reimbursement plan.
