About the School

Sunstate Academy is a Redken Premier School that offers a blend of hands-on learning and theory in its programs. Redken is a professional hair care products company owned by L'Oréal Group. As a Premier School Sunstate's instructors have professional training from Redken and salon experience.

The school offers curriculums in the fields of cosmetology, nail technician, massage therapist and barber-styling cosmetology. The academy is also a full-service clinic.

Academic Programs

Sunstate's programs include:

• Cosmetology – The program offers comprehensive training in various techniques of styling men's and women's hair. The curriculum offers strategies for up-selling and retaining clients. Graduates have the opportunity to take the the State Board exam.
• Manicurist – The curriculum blends theory and practical learning. Students have the opportunity to gain experience by working on customers in a clinic setting. In addition, students are prepared to take the state certification exam.
• Massage Therapist – Graduates may take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. The curriculum combines textbook knowledge and hands-on learning.
• Barber-Styling Cosmetology – Students gain experience by working in a real salon. Graduates of the program have the opportunity to take the State Board Exam.

Faculty

The teachers have all received Redken professional training. The low student to teacher ratio allows the instructors to offer one-on-one assistance. The classes also provide salon owners and stylists as guest speakers, which gives students an introduction to a range of different techniques and the opportunity to meet area professionals.

Student Life

The students have opportunities to meet with employers during career days. Also, according to Sunstate Academy, local Redken salons regularly seek to hire the stylists who attend their school.

Admissions and Financial Aid

An interview with a school representative is part of the admissions procedure. Students that don't have a high school diploma, must be over the age of sixteen and take a basic skills test or scholastic examination.
