About the School
The Salter School of Nursing and Allied Health provides career-oriented healthcare programs in nursing, surgical technology and phlebotomy. The programs include classroom learning and hands-on clinical training.
Academic Programs
- The Practical Nursing Program - Combines classroom learning, hands-on lab experiences and clinical training in community, hospitals and ambulatory care and long term care settings. The program provides the necessary learning experiences to prepare students to practice care giving.
- Licensed Nursing Assistant program - Provides students the knowledge and skills required to provide quality care in a variety of settings, including home care, nursing/long term care, rehabilitation and acute care hospitals. The clinical experience is performed at local long-term skilled nursing care facilities. The program also includes lab sessions. BLS, adult, infant and child AED training is included.
- Phlebotomy program - Combines classroom learning, clinical practice and hands-on laboratory experience. Students learn to collect, process and transport blood specimens. Graduates can take the NHA exam.
- Surgical Technology program - Students are trained to be part of an operating team. The program includes theory and clinical experience. Training is provided in aseptic techniques, handling special drugs, equipment and supplies, and safely providing care to surgical patients.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Applicants of the LNA & PN programs need to complete the ACCUPLACER. Applicants of the phlebotomy and surgical technology programs need to take the Wonderlic Aptitude test. Applicants must also submit a secondary school transcript or GED certificate with scores. In addition, students can wave a course by passing a challenge exam.
