About the School
Thompson Institute provides specialized training in the fields of computers, healthcare and professional trades. According to the school, its programs are designed to offer the skills sought after by employers. Thompson Institute is owned by the Kaplan Higher Education Corporation. Kaplan has over one million students on a yearly basis from the United States and abroad, including online students through Kaplan University.
Academic Programs
Program areas include:
- Computer Support Technician – Offers a combination of hands-on learning, lectures and group discussions regarding computer programs, software and hardware and network systems. Students learn the administration, support and maintenance aspects of computer systems and networks.
- Dental Assistant – Offers training in the administrative and clinical tasks of a dental office. Basic computer skills are also provided. In addition, experience is gained through an externship.
- Medical Assisting – Provides training in basic clinical tasks such as lab procedures and EKG's. Training is also provided in administrative tasks, including filing insurance claims and bookkeeping. An externship is included in the program.
- Medical Office Management – Offers a comprehensive review of administration tasks, medical insurance processing, patient care and other subjects. Clinical skills are learned in the school's training labs. Experience is gained through an externship at a healthcare facility.
- Electrician – The program offers a solid foundation in the basics of electricity and its practical applications. Students are trained in wiring procedures for residential and commercial buildings. The program offers a comprehensive review of AC and DC motors and generators, circuit wiring, programmable logic controllers and transformers and multiphase power supplies.

Faculty
Many of the instructors have worked in their teaching field. Thompson Institute's small class sizes provide a personalized teacher to student learning environment.
Student Life
The campus has over 1000 students. Most students are female. The Career Services department offers employment search assistance for graduates at anytime. Students are assisted with locating part-time jobs. Some students may qualify for the Federal Work Study Program. Enrollees also have access to tutoring sessions.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Admissions department personnel assist applicants in completing the admissions procedure. To attend Thompson Institute, students are required to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate or demonstrate the "Ability to Benefit" from the training by passing a test. Concerning financial assistance, Thompson Institute has been approved for a variety of federal loans and grants and other types of financial aid.
