About the School

West Coast University (WCU) was founded in 1909 as an ophthalmology school. Today, the university offers programs in healthcare administration, nursing and dental hygiene. Hands-on learning is emphasized in the programs.

Academic Programs

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing – Designed as a comprehensive curriculum to prepares student for careers in medical-surgical nursing, home care nursing, pediatrics, community health and gerontology.
  • LVN to RN Bridge/Associate Degree in Nursing Program – Designed for the LVN who is seeking to advance in their career. The program offers the skills required for practicing RNs. The curriculum emphasizes physically assessing patients, IV therapy techniques and blood component therapy. The pharmacology of intravenous drugs is also thoroughly reviewed. Specialized nursing occupation courses are also included in the program.
  • Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Program – Offers training in nutrition, public health nursing and physical assessment. Pharmacology and the principles of leadership and management as well as other topics are examined.
  • Dental Hygiene Bachelor's of Science Degree – Offers training in a simulation laboratory. Students also receive training by working on artificial patients. The program also provides a strong foundation in general and oral pathology, nutrition, pharmacology, preventive dentistry and risk assessment. Periodontal disease assessment and therapy, preventative and therapeutic patient care and other topics are included in the curriculum.

Employment assistance personnel are available when students are close to completing their program. School representatives are also available to assist students with preparing for the National Council Licensure Examination - Registered Nurse.

In order to attend West Coast University, students are required to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate and pass the school's entrance evaluations.
