The Albany Law School was founded in 1851 by Robert H. Pruyn and others. It is the oldest private, independent law school in the USA. The Law College offers courses leading to a Juris Doctor degree as well as master level and combined degrees such as J.D/MBA. It also has a unique program offering a masters of science degree in legal studies with concentration of technology transfer. The Albany Law College offers study through the following divisions:
- Center for Law and Innovation
- Clinic and Justice Center
- Government Law Center
- Institute of Legal Studies
The Albany Law college has an active Greek life consisting of several fraternities and sororities. The campus clubs also hosts several clubs and organizations such as Pro Bono Society, Outdoor Club, Latino American Law Students Association, and Labor and Employment Law Student Association. The college also has both men and women’s sports team for rugby. The college also has a student-run Albany Law Review, a literary journal.
