Albany State University

Albany State University, also known as ASU, is a four-year, state-supported university located in Albany, Georgia, United States. It is part of the University System of Georgia. It was founded in 1903. The main campus spreads across an area of 206 acres. ASU offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs and over 5 advanced degrees in diverse areas of study. The university is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • College of Arts and Humanities

  • College of Education
  • College of Science and Health Professions

ASU has over 55 clubs and organizations which are based on the varied interests of students. The university also has an active Greek life. There are several sororities and fraternities on campus including Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Iota Phi Theta, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

Housing and Meals

Albany State provides on-campus housing for 1,518 of its 3,817 (full-time) students (as of 2008-2009). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 113 male students received the aid (men were 63% of those receiving aid) and 67 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 37% of students receiving such aid) .
