Amarillo College

Amarillo College, or AC, was established on July 16, 1929, as Amarillo Junior College. It was the first college district of Texas. The first class was held in September 1929. The college moved to its main campus in 1937. The campus encompasses more than 30 acres in Amarillo, Texas. AC was the first publicly supported college in Texas that admitted black students to its undergraduate classes. The first black student enrolled in 1951. The college also has several other campuses in Amarillo, Dumas, and Hereford in Texas.

The academic division of AC is organized into various departments including business administration, mass communication, mathematics and engineering, computer information systems and many more. The scholarship programs of the college include the AC Foundation Scholarship, Watkins Memorial Scholarship, Sybil B. Harrington Scholarship, Adult Students Scholarship, LITE Scholarship, O'Brien Scholarship, and Tommy Thompson Scholarship.

AC has a number of organizations and clubs that are administered by the students. Some of these are the Animation Club, Baptist Student Ministry, Catholic Student Association, Dental Hygienists Association, and Kappa Chi.
