Overview
The American Film Institute Conservatory is a branch of the American Film Institute, established in 1967. It is located in Los Angeles, California and was founded in 1969 by the National Endowment for the Arts. The conservatory grants a five-term master’s degree in fine arts, which includes six disciplines- editing, screenwriting, directing, producing, production design and cinematography. The conservatory also provides students training in the most advanced digital technology. The campus is spread across an area of around 340 acres.
US News and World Report ranks the American Film Institute Conservatory among the top five film institutions in America. Some of the notable alumni of the school include Martin Brest, actor, filmmaker and producer; Terrence Malick, filmmaker, screenwriter and producer; and John Campbell McTiernan, renowned action filmmaker.
