Overview

The American River College was established in 1955 as the American River Junior College. The college adopted its present name in 1965. The campus of the American River College encompasses more than 150 acres of land on the old Cameron Ranch in Sacramento, California.

The American River College offers a number of academic programs in various areas of study. Some of the departments of the college are automotive technology, anthropology, business technology, computer information science, design engineering technology and electronic technology.

Lloyd Connelly, the California Superior Court judge and former California State Assembly member; Anthony Swofford, the author of "Jarhead"; and Steve Holm, catcher for the San Francisco Giants are some of the famous alumni of the American River College.
