Overview

Arkansas Tech University was originally established as the Second District Agricultural School in 1909. The first classes were held on October 26, 1910. It became the Arkansas Polytechnic College in 1925 and adopted its current name on July 9, 1976. As of Fall 2007, the university enrolls more than 7,000 students. Apart from its main campus in Russellville, Arkansas, the university also has a small satellite campus in Ozark, Arkansas. ATU is divided into the following academic units:

ATU has a very active Greek Life. The fraternities and sororities are governed by the Interfraternity Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Some of these Greek organizations are Alpha Gamma Sigma, Kappa Sigma, Phi Lambda Chi and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

ATU competes in the NCAA Division II and is a member of the Gulf South Conference. Its sports teams include football, baseball, volleyball, golf, tennis, softball, cross country and basketball.

Arkansas Tech provides on-campus housing for 2,452 of its 6,862 (full-time) students (as of 2009-2010).

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Gulf South Conference for major sports.

The school offers financial aid for athletes. Of students receiving athletic financial aid, 128 male students received the aid (men were 73% of those receiving aid) and 47 women were awarded financial aid based on athletics (representing 27% of students receiving such aid) .
