Overview

Established in 1878, Ashland University was originally known as Ashland College. Its first classes were held on September 17, 1879, with around 75 students and eight faculty members. It gained university status in 1989 and adopted its current name at that time. The university campus covers more than 100 acres in Ashland, Ohio. AU also has a number of satellite campuses throughout northern and central Ohio. It is divided into the following academic schools and colleges:

  • Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics

There are several fraternities and sororities at AU. Some of the Greek organizations here are Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Mu, Beta Beta Beta, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Phi Kappa Psi and Delta Zeta. In addition, the university also sponsors many student clubs and organizations, such as the Adventure Club, American Marketing Association, Anime Club, Criminal Justice Club, French Club, Hospitality Management Student Association and the Social Work Club.

Ashland University provides on-campus housing for 1,887 of its 5,410 (full-time) students (as of 2009-2010). The school requires freshmen to live on campus.

Students may purchase a meal plan which includes 19 meals weekly.

Athletics

School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for major sports.
