Overview
Augusta State University is a public university in Augusta, Georgia. It was initially founded in 1783 as the Academy of Richmond County. It started to offer collegiate-level classes in 1785. It became a part of the University System of Georgia in 1958, when the name was changed to Augusta College. In 1963, it was granted a 4-year status, and the name was changed to Augusta State University in 1996.
ASU offers enrollment to more than 5,000 undergraduate and close to 1,000 graduate students every year. Students are awarded associate, bachelor, master, and specialist degrees in more than 50 areas of study. Paralegal certificates and cooperative doctorate programs are also available at this university. ASU is organized into 3 colleges:
