Overview
The history of Augustana College dates back to the establishment of Hillsboro Academy in 1835. The name of the academy was changed to The Literary and Theological Institute of the Lutheran Church of the Far West. After it moved to Springfield, Illinois, the institution was renamed Illinois State University. Finally, it moved to its present location in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1918 and merged with the Lutheran Normal School. In the same year, the college adopted its current name. The college campus encompasses approximately 100 acres of land and is the largest private university in the state. It is organized into the following academic divisions:

The college has many student clubs and organizations including the American Chemical Association, Augustana Student Organization for Historical Studies, Philosophy Club, El Club Espaņol, Alpha Psi Omega, Phi Alpha Theta, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Colleges against Cancer, and Student Council for Exceptional Children.

Athletics
School sports include football, basketball, baseball, and track. The school is in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for major sports.
