Averett University

Averett University is a coeducational, private university located in Danville, Virginia, United States. It was chartered in 1859 as a women's college under the name of Union Female College. The school was renamed Averett College in 1917. The College became coeducational in 1969. The final name change occurred in 2001 when the College was renamed Averett University. The University has a suburban campus and grants admission to more than 2,500 students every year.

Averett University's athletic teams are nicknamed the Cougars. A cougar is the university's official mascot. The women's sports teams participate in softball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, basketball, and cheerleading.
